Ladies and gentlemen, I don’t mean to alarm you but there is something out there called “web code” that is putting everyone’s privacy in jeopardy. This latest threat to our way of life is called HTML 5 and it must be stopped!

In the next few years, a powerful new suite of capabilities will become available to Web developers that could give marketers and advertisers access to many more details about computer users’ online activities. Nearly everyone who uses the Internet will face the privacy risks that come with those capabilities, which are an integral part of the Web language that will soon power the Internet: HTML 5.

Forget HTML5, they are already using IP tracking for advertising. If I visit straighttalk.com in private mode then open a new browser with a new Firefox profile I will still get advertising for that site nonstop while visiting different sites. There are no Flash cookies on my system at this point. I have even seen their banners get served up here at hardocp.com so it must be Google's doubleclick doing this. So far this has been happening for about a week. More often then not I will get 2-3 banners that are for the same ad on the same page.

Great, just we need. More adverts of; Increase your wenis size, get these super duper awesome smileys, master poker online, none of which i'm fucking interested in.

But but, I thought HTML5 was the savior that was going to free us all from the tyranny of Flash!! ;)

Noscript + ABP = worry-free. I imagine similar will come around for HTML5.0

Whitelists have always been the best security mechanism.

IF people were seriously THAT worried about privacy, online banks and social networks wouldn't exist in the first place.

lol you see ads? i haven't seen an ad online in years :p

what is funny is i was just hearing a week or two ago the Google hated HTML 5 because they couldn't track information like they could with flash thus youtube and their ads were going to stay with flash until they could figure out how to track info with HTML 5. Sounds like that shouldn't be a problem for them.

Honestly, I don't understand the people who give a fuck about any of this. You think you have any "privacy" as a citizen in the developed world with massive government bureaucracies and sprawling corporations continuously tracking as much they can with the latest and greatest technology? Most of the bleating sheep in America will submit to anything in the name of "security" as it is. If anyone is interested in finding you, it would take 30 seconds of tracking your credit card, bank, or cell phone use. No one who lives "on the grid" in the modern world even has a chance.

Exactly...it's funny that anyone thought they had real privacy from internet services and their explorer in the first place. The "our way of life" thing had me seems a little alarmist

This article is rather shallow it does not state anything more then stuff that is already happening to date with current html standard, nor does it state that it will get worse, people who are asked to rebutle just give a blank statement of were looking into it ( which should have been : what the hell are you talking about woman) .

The whole piece is one suggestive piece of pooh.

the only thing I hate about ads is that it's either spam or if not that then something that is so far from what I need in my life it may as well be a joke too.

disable 3rd party cookies...
clean out the flash crap every once and awhile, better yet disable flash plug in unless you need it.
use a hosts file that has a a list of tracking servers
disable referrer information

You can minimize your trail pretty easily. without breaking everywebsite with No script.

This article is kind of stupid. It seems to think that advertisers are going to use the offline storage feature of HTML5 to store more tracking information - wtf?

Why would they store that info on your computer where they can't access it whenever they want when what they currently do is just store it in their data centers? Seriously retarded article by an author that doesn't know shit about how HTML or the web works.

It's just a typical scare piece without facts, people, it isn't actual news.
