Got an AT&T HTC Vivid here, and a NET10 SIM card. I noticed there was a SIM Unlock option in the boot loader, but it just gives an SDcard error and asks if I want to reboot. I've already tried factory resetting the phone, and booting it fresh with the new SIM in, but I'm not sure what else is required or how to proceed.

That SDcard error, might it want to access an unlock code in a file I'm supposed to be putting on there or something? Or maybe create some .ini file to tell it at boot to connect to a different network?

No, you need an actual unlock code. If you enter it in wrong over 10 times, your phone will permanently lock to AT&T. You really need to find a phone forum with a specific Vivid section for more info, like XDA.

Problem is, I haven't been prompted to enter a code at all yet. Ever. When's it supposed to do that?

Well, when I boot the phone, I get no signal. I get plenty of signal with my AT&T SIM. Do they use different towers or something?

Net10 uses AT&T's networks. You might not need to unlock it.
They can also use the T-Mobile network. My guess is the OP may have a T-Mobile based sim.

OP you could do one of two things...
-Goto a AT&T store and have them unlock the phone (still might not work on T-Mobile's network if the phone doesn't have the radios that support T-Mobile)
-Or get a AT&T SIM from Net10

Options from Net10's site
Phone is a CDMA (i.e. Verizon, Sprint, Metro PCS), TracFone, SafeLink, NET10, Straight Talk or BlackBerry
Unlocked GSM Phone (Phone must operate in 850 and 1900 MHz bands)
AT&T Compatible Phone
T-Mobile Compatible Phone

The reason you get no signal is because your PTA is wrong. If it was a tmobile based phone it would bring up the unlock code dialog box.
