Well the big distinction with the Vive is the Lighthouse motion control tech - a base station and two satellites. While Oculus dicks around with bundling an Xbox controller for day one sales to buy time to figure input out later, HTC gains first mover advantage with the complete solution.

In the case of the Vive, developers also won't have to worry about whether or not motion control will be present, since it'll be standard equipment. With the Rift, a dev may find themselves in the predicament of having to code for two different hardware configs since motion input will be optional.
