HTC Hero with SERO?

So I want an Android phone pretty badly.

I'm currently on an HTC Touch Pro with custom firmware, but when it comes down to it, it's still Windows Mobile: third best mobile OS at best.

I'm on the SERO plan with Sprint, and I've seen mixed reports of whether or not this "grandfathered" plan can be kept when upgrading to the HTC Hero (running Android OS).

Anyone know definitively if there is any way to get the Hero on the SERO plan?

you would have to call sprint and ask them
if you can activate the phone without changing your plan

You really should look at the TP2. They are out of stock at the moment but should be out in the next few weeks with WinMo 6.5. I know much is said about how much WinMo sucks. Personally I think WAY too much is made of phone OS'es and not the hardware.

The TP2 is simply an amazing device. Using Touch Flo 3D or Spb Mobile pretty much gives you an attractive interface for the most part, there are still old WinMo screens and apps but overall its a kick ass phone.

I have Spb Mobile Shell which is VERY similar to Sense on the Hero. I mean, its got a freeking 3D Home screen! The coolest Home UI on any phone, and its running WinMo 6.1!

There's a ton out there. Check YouTube for the video reviews. That'll link you into a lot of reviews. Also you can go to VerizonWireless.com and check out the user reviews. Average of 4.5 out 5. So basically perfect user reviews. On a phone that if you listen to the IT pundits should suck but is COMPLETELY AWESOME!

I've lost all faith in IT journalism.

If you have any specific questions let me know. I'll try to answer them.

I had the SERO for more than 4 years, then almost 2 years ago I upgrade my phone and one of those dumb ass employee at the Sprint store took me off the SERO plan and put me into a family pack when I upgrade to a new phone. I was pretty pissed. I had to called Sprint and they patch me through to one of their higher up who can make decisions. I was offered a comparable plan, I think it was the 450 PowerPack, but with a $10 discount which equates to the same price as the SERO plan. I have this $10 discount until 2025 or something like that :) So yeah call Sprint and ask them what they can do for you.

O man thanks for mentioning the Spb shell I downloaded the trial for my tp2 and it's nice.

I've looked at the TP2, not interested.

I've used WM6.5 on my TP for months now, way better than 6.1, but still third best.

So nobody knows for sure, eh?

I had sero and I had to switch. I hated loosing sero but im on a family plan now so in the end im paying 10 more a month for both phone but i get hero plus i get unlimited tx and unlimited mobile to mobile and sprint nav while under sero i didnt

You will need to talk to Sprint and convert your SERO into a EPRP500 plan which is basically the same thing as Sero, it is the new call any cell number unlimited thing with 500 normal min/month for $59.99.

You will get a few sprint people who have no idea about the EPRP500, just keep pushing it, it took me talking to 9 different CSR before I found one who was able to do the conversion.

My HTC Hero should be here tomorrow, I can't wait.

There's a ton of stuff I've found about this and it looks Nanan has the right idea, call Sprint.

I think that people have been discounting WinMo for so long that they are just doing out of habit. I look at the reviews the new HTC phones like the TP2 and the Imagio and they are simply stellar. Then I see something like the HD2 and realize that every phone that's in our hands today is nothing but a pile of junk.

At any rate I really want to try a Hero. I just can't believe that the screen is going to be much relative to a TP2 with 2.5 times the resolution.

I agree and disagree.

WinMO 6.5 at its core is a dog. It really is when you compare it to the other OSes out there in functionality and UI. (iPhone, WebOS, Android). Now, granted, HTC does alot to make it usuable. Without HTC WinMo is dead in the water.

At its core WinMo is pretty solid, its the UI that the problem. And besides HTC's stuff there's Sbp Mobile Shell. There's ain't a better looking phone UI out there. Now Sbp Mobile Shell isn't quite as deep in the the GUI as HTC's Touch Flo. But this is just awesome: http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/

I'm running this on my phone and overall I'm surprised how well it works. Take a bit of time to load when the phone boots but once its loaded its very smooth. WinMo is just much more capable at its core than most realize.

At any rate, were all talking about phones that are about all become bricks over the next year. Phones are about to take QUANTUM leap.

I find your statement ironic since as far as I know WinMo is the only one that actually let's you completely change the UI, as well as the fact that it has more functionality than any other device bar none. WinMo has been doing things for years that even the latets iPhone absolutely CANNOT do. WebOS and Android, hmm how new are they? And what can they do that WinMo can't?

I guess we'll have to let the WinMo haters have their time in the sun for a few more months.

I make no excuses for Microsoft. They simply got lazy with with WinMo and missed the mark in a market that they actually were a leader in. Windows CE is much older than the other smartphone OS'es. All they had to do is keep Windows CE fresh and fresh looking and they would have saved themselves a lot grief.

That said, WinMo is pretty much as functional as all the other mobile OS'es. When you get past the GUI they aren't all they different. There is no basic functionality that I don't have in my TP2. Great phone, visual voice mail, good GUI's are available, on a device like the TP2 web browsing is better than an iPhone overall I think.

Fortunately this all ENDS next year. Think of device like the HD2 running a Zune interface for phones. NO ONE will be able to knock that for innovation.

When Microsoft has its back against the wall they have an uncanny way of responding in a big way.

But I really don't get the Hero. The more I look at the device videos the less impressed I am. It's not bad but anyone who thinks that Hero is an overall better device than a TP2 is simply letting their bias against WinMo cloud their judgment.

As far as I know they're guilty of one thing. Haveing a great mobile OS that ISN'T PRETTY OH NO. They didn't change the OS for years because it was already good and functional. It's biggest beef has been the hardware it's been put on really, but that's what you get when you have a flexible OS. I can put Windows 7 on a piece of crap and have it run badly too. Doesn't mean the OS is to blame. I'd say 80% of the complaints about WinMo are that it's not pretty (who cares) or that it's buggy which can be attributed more to the hardware usually.

Sorry for the thread de-rail btw. I just hate general statements lacking accuracy. :p

You're totally right about the hardware and WinMo. The TP2 proves that. Basically the same CPU as the TP and its runs so much better.

anyone see the new samsung android phone? samsung moment, 800mhz cpu, amoled, android, pretty cool.

I am stuck too, I am on iPhone but love Android, dang you AT&T! Good luck man.

Love my new hero. ^^ I don't know why, but I don't like samsung mobile phones (they always seem to be missing the "cool" factor as far as hardware and software design)

I have my UI on WebOS completely altered. I did the same with Android. That's a nonsense retort.

What can they do? How about what can they do better? Basically everything.

I'll say it again, WinMO compared to the other OSes out there is a dog. If HTC hadn't reskinned it and basically made it usable, it's dead in the water.

Waiting on specifics. :) And when you say alter do you mean completely swap the UI for a different one? Because so far I know of four completely different options for WinMo, all which have their perks and differing memory footprints to choose from. Look I'm not gonna say all others suck except WinMo, but WinMo is easily still on par and relevant.
