I primarily use my new computer for Drafting and Design (Revit mostly) which is not a hyperthreaded program. So when i use it, it will only use 12.5% (one thread) of the CPU instead of 25% (full core)

If i turn off HT i assume that i can maximize performance because i can use the core to its fullest. Am i correct in that logic?

I do not think it will make much a difference unless it is at least using 100% of at least 1 core.

Well thats what Im trying to figure out. The program will max out one thread 100% but not utilize any other thread. With a Q6600 that is not HT the program will max out a full core.

from my experience if the app isn't "multi-threaded" having multiple cores/HyperThreading makes no difference unless the program is modified to utilize such features. otherwise, it will always only use 1 core no matter what.

You are not understanding the representation of CPU usage.

On a processor with 8 threads, one of those threads being maxed out IS indicative of a full core being used. 12.5% vs. 25% is nothing more than 1/8 vs. 1/4.

Obviously since it is a single-threaded app, it will never use more than one thread, thus 12.5%. That doesn't mean it's only using half of one core, that is simply how it is represented in Task Manager, etc. It is still using a full core.

You are partly talking about HyperThreading (I assume that is what "HT" means) and partly talking about cores. They are two different things. HyperThreading may have an impact on your situation, while multiple cores will not.

Disabling HyperThreading would theoretically maximize the raw performance of your single app. However, Windows is multithreaded, so unless your single app consists of almost non-stop, very tight calculating loops, your system will be more responsive and the negative impact on your app will be almost zero with HyperThreading enabled.

That is what i wanted to hear. I just wasn't sure how that was represented

With a 1 or 2 physical core system I can buy that with HT disabled the performance lost to OS threads (by having HT off) can negate the single thread raw performance advantage with HT off. However this chip has 4 physical cores. I doubt the OS will be using 3 physical cores at a time during your single threaded application running.

I can tell a difference in the buttery smoothness of the overall system......it is "slower" with HT off even at 3.6GHz+. Just my 2 cents. I leave my HT on.
