Ok so I'm looking to replace my kilpsch promedias 2.1 with a HT setup on my comp. When looking arround these caught my eye:

People seem to say very good things about these on AVSForms.

What I was wondering is do you think there would be a problem having these speakers close to me. What I mean is as a comp setup the fronts would probably be 2'-4' away from me with the rears like 8' away at most.

Another question is are there better speakers that I should be looking at? I was looking to spend up to $400 on the speakers, and I would be ok with less speakers now, and adding the surrounds later. I will use them mostly for music, with the occasional game and movie.

Amp will be either an yamaha htr-5740 or an a Dennon AVR-1705 if I can afford it. I'd be open to suggestions on the amp as well, My total budget is probably $700 for speakres and amp.
 
Another good set to look into is Klipsch Referance RB 25s. Great speakers and well worth the $250-$300 for a pair.
 
AV123 makes some great stuff, I can vouch for that at least =] Haven't heard those models before though, so I'll leave it up to the experts =]
 
I'm almost ready to fire up my setup. Got a Denon AVR-1705 new on E-bay for $300 shipped, Paradigm Cinema 90 fronts and center channel new from the local shop 30% off for about $250, Paradigm ADP surrounds off Ebay for $100 (all silver), and and Infinity 10" sub new off Ebay for $250 shipped. Just got Premier silver LS-40 speaker stands (demos) off the internet for $79 shipped. Toss in 100' AR 16 ga white speaker wire from Best Buy for $30, AR banana plugs $9 / 4, AR sub cable AP-052 (15') for $10 from Buy.com, still waiting on 3 Belkin 3.5mm to RCA cables @ $9 ea., and last but not least the Radio Shack 3.5mm to single RCA mono for digital out for $5. I may get the wiring done this weekend and test the digital out. I wish the Belkin cables would get restocked! Hope this helps your planning. All this hooked to an Audigy 2 ZS.
 
Sounds like you had a lot of fun piecing that all together.
It should make for a nice system.
Well, except for the Radio Shack cable but you will figure that out shortly. :D

When you use an analog cable the big problems like jitter and signal reflection come from an impedance mismatch. There are also other problems with using a low Z analog cable (like limited bandwidth and poor shielding) but those are things you may not even notice cause of the nature of the signal being transmited.
Besides I am of the opinion that you don't use a POS $3 cable with a $1200 system but that's me so.... :p

It is kinda stewpid for Creative to use a jack like that and not even suppy an adapter with the card. :rolleyes:
 
Thanks everyone for the replies.

Once I'm done for the term I'm going to start going to shops and lisening to speakers. I think I may end up doing it one bit at a time, depends on what i can afford.
 
Check out the Athena Point5 system at Best Buy. They're clearing them out for only $260 for the set of five speakers, which makes them a pretty good value. Find a decent sub to go along with it (I think I recommended the 10" Parts Express sub for $140 or so in another thread) and you'd have a pretty good setup.
