Ok im still a little confused on HTT. Isnt it it the chipset bandwidth? if not please correct me. Anyway I know you are not supposed to go over 1000 with your HT * FSB. So i can run all day long at 250FSB at 4HT becuase that is right at 1000 similar to 200FSB Stock *5 = 1000. But when I go to a higher FSB say 260 I have to lower the HT to 3 so then 260 * 3 is only 780 so even if I have a higher FSB arent I losing bandwidth and performance because the total HT is only 780? Basically am I better off keeping my FSB at 250 and HT at four or should I just go for high FSB and lower HT to 3?
 
This is a good question, to which I would also like an answer. I have my htt at 4 also with my A64 3200+ winchester at 250fsb. Should I lower the htt more if I want to go higher? and if I do will I hurt performance?

I came from a ASUS A7N8X Delux with a 2500+ running at 2.2ghz and was pretty familiar with overclocking the bartons but my A8V is a totally different animal (maybe the A64 is the differnet animal) and I am totally lost.

I wish there was an up to date "how to overclock the A64" sticky.

I am using Corsair Value ram and I think that makes a difference in my situation.
 
Well Right now my AMD64 3200+ Is at 263 * 9.5mult =2.5Ghz with HTT at 3 so it seems foolish to lower my FSB 13MHZ to lift my HTT to 4 but maybe im wrong. Any other opinions?
 
Good question...

I was running at 10*270 1/1 at 4htt completly stable but then realized I was at 1080 and backed it back down to 3htt.

Is there only a stability problem past 1000? or could I be damaging something?

Again does 4hht vs 3htt have anything to do with performance or just stability?
 
Run some benchmarks... see whats up.

My A64 parts should be coming in a few days.

Try one setup and then lower the HTT only and compare benchmarks. Then try one setup with higher HTT/lower FSB and another with higher FSB/lower HTT.
 
I benched this, and gamed with it... and the difference is so minute its nearly an irrelevant argument. Alot of it is RAM dependent as well... If you have RAM that will require loose timings to run at high speeds, go ahead and go with high HTT. If not, go ahead and overclock that RAM, run high FSB, and a 3x multiplier.

superpi 1m = 31sec
3dmark03 = 14197

4X=1080
superpi 1m = 31sec
3dmark03 = 14190

The htt multiplier seems to have no impact for me.
I'd keep it at the lower setting and go for more of an overclock.
Just my opinion.
