HSF question for Thermalright ''SLK900A''

I'm currently using a socket 370/socket A Swiftech all aluminum HS/w a Papst 60mm fan on my 2500+ and was looking to upgrade to a Thermalright ''SLK900A''. My question is how does the fan attach to the heatsink?
 
it attaches via metal wire clips that attach to the side of the heatsink. THey hold the fan on there good!

Irrelevent. Depends on the type of fan you use. Most will come flush to the outside edge of the heatsink (holding it in place with the clip) but with a space over the main cooling area.

Take a chill pill and watch the tone. I'm here to tell you that on my monitor your sig uses 13 lines. No if's or but's about it. Please don't respond just stating fact here!
 
So kleptophobiac, you're saying putting a small spacer between the fan and sink won't help?

Not necessarily, unless you want to try it to reduce vibration/noise. The Thermalright sinks are "stepped", for lack of a better term. The top kind of looks like:

So that you can mount fans of different sizes on it. The top "step" is for a bigger fan than the next step down. Since you only have one fan, there will be some space betwen the bottom of the fan and top of the heatsink except on the two ends where the fan sits on the steps. So there's a little extra space for airflow in the middle of the sink usually (maybe not if you used the smallest fan it supports). As computerpro already mentioned, there are 2 metal clips (about as thick as a paperclip) that hook onto the heatsink and then clip on top of the screw holes on the fan. They keep the fan in place pretty securely without the need for screwing the fan into anything. Makes it faster to remove or change the fan, really.

thats weird, what size monitor and what res are you running?
 
19" monitor. 800X600 resolution. What you probably think are single lines are displayed as double lines because of their length.

yeah, thats what my dad does with his 19in mon, 1024X768 w/ large fonts, it isn't too bad
 
Maybe he's 47 and fine with 800x600! What does that have to do with anything?
 
I know we could get along if folks would quit hijacking people's threads with irrelavant and useless comments. I always try to give people at least that courtesy.

while zero thread hijacking would be kinda cool (i guess), i like it this way, with thread hijacks all over the place, makes it more fun, since you get all the misc stuff (can also learn some stuff with thread hijacks)
