HSF for DFI Infinity

You may have noticed this topic in another thread, but I've got a focused question now, so I'm creating a new thread.

I'm looking for a HSF for an overclock of a XP-M 2400+ (Barton).

I've looked at the Zalman 7000A, Swiftech MCX462+, and Vantec Aeroflow2. There are some concerns that the DFI Infinity board has resistor/capacitor crowding by the HS mounting holes, which definitely complicate the Zalman and other bolt mounted boards . I don't really feel like cutting the HSF unit up to mount it, either.

So, in short, which HSF is a good choice for a XP-M running at 2.3-2.4 ghz in a DFI Infinity? If possible, I'd like the unit to come with fan, under 45$. Noise isn't a huge problem, as long as the police don't get called.

p.s. I'm thinkin Antec 1080AMG for a case, so there will be plenty of room.

A Thermalright "U" model should be fine.

the U models would require a $5 neo back plate from thermalright to work correctly with the DFI nForce2 boards.

I suggest the SLK-900A.

Well, in theory, if I could get both to fit, which is better? The SLK900A or MCX462+?

Also, any suggestions on fans to get? Nothin too expensive, the 900A runs for about 38 bucks, so preferably 10 bucks or under.

damn, i have an mcx462 and just got my slk-900A in today thinking the 462 wouldnt fit, oh wells

i'm prolly gonna use the 900a anyways

anyone want an MCX462? :D

So...which is a better cooler/has a better chance of being successfully mounted on the Infinity, the SLK900A or the MCX462+? Any suggestions on a fan? I can buy a TT fan with the adjustable speed [i've heard its quite loud] off of my friend.

the 900a will do better with high cfm fans then the switftech. the switftech does better then the 900a with lower cfm fans although temps will increase with lower cfm fans on either. if you want a fan with raw power look to a vantec tornado or a smartfan 2. the smart fan at low speed is pretty quiet. when i had a 92mm tornado even at 3000rpm (lowest i could take it with an aerogate2) it was too loud since the computer is 3 feet from my head.

Who makes the smartfan2? Could I use the fan-only connector on an antec TruePower power supply to take the rpms down on the tornado? or might that be too risky.

the Zalman should fit just fine

it doesnt fit without mount sanding and a clip trim. btw, the 7000A needs a backplate! the thing is barely tightened at all and it warps the board under the socket. :(
