HS94P...DVI vs. Analog

I've wondered this for a while and when searching the forum I can't find the post that mentioned this.

I've got Sony HS94P and was wondering that FOR GAMING, should I be using DVI or analog. I recall reading that there was less motion blur using analog...which seems to fit my own experience, yet I keep seeing posts that always say that you should use DVI if your monitor has that option. I don't really notice a difference (in visual quality for images) and I was wondering if this monitor was an anomoly...or if my eyes are off/the earlier posts were wrong.

Just because I'm really curious what opinions are for this (and I know plenty of people have this monitor)....BUMP.

I would say use analog if you play games with vsync on as your refresh rate is 75 then I believe instead of only 60 with DVI. I play games with vsync off though so I just use DVI and don't have any problems with ghosting and can play quite competetively in fps games, especially cs: source right now.

Yeah, I was thinking that the ability to turn up the refresh (and therefore boost max FPS) was the only advantage to analog.

Last night I was doing a lot of opinionated visual comparisons and I really didn't notice much of one as far as blurring goes. Analog might have a fraction less, but not much.

I play with Vsync on whenever possible. I despise the tearing I get when I don't. To me that's worse than a low framerate. The strangest thing is - Doom 3 doesn't seem to tear at all, though. Not sure, why but it's true...disabling and enabling it seems to look identical, only with about a 10 FPS difference.

Anyone else have an analog/digital opinion for this monitor? Again, I see no visual quality difference at all.

Has anyone tried to force a higher refresh rate for DVI? I can create a custom profile in the nvidia driver but not sure if it will hurt the display.

Hi folks,

I am thinking to by one but I am a bit worry about the quality of the display. I heard things like problems with the backlight and with the color black. I also heard that the viewing angle is not very good.

What are your experience about this?

Thanks,

L

It's a solid monitor, but you just have to make sure you get a newer revision. Get one after week 44 and you should be fine with backlight bleeding. If you're getting one at a store, just ask to turn it on and check the manufacturing date while in the store.
I never had an issue with blacks coming out. There have been a few posts on here for optimal monitor settings, and I just use those without issues.

Essentially what I ended up doing was hooking up both the digital and analog inputs into my video card (6800GT) and just set the Nview dual monitor setting to "clone." This allows you to change between analog and digital on the fly with the input buttons on the monitor.

In some games analog seems to perform better when it comes to motion blur and in others it makes no difference...but it's nice to be able to do both without much hassle.

Interesting, does the refresh go up to 75 hz then when you're playing games through analog? If so I might have to try that out also.

It *CAN* go up to 75 hz if the program can adjust it, but obviously you'd have to either specify it as a custom setting for a game...or just stick to analog most of the time and keep your settings at 75 hz. Considering the only thing it seems to affect with an LCD is your max framerate...I don't notice much difference between 60 and 75.
I keep it on DVI for everything sans a few FPS games. For instance Unreal Tournament and in particularl the Need For Speed games blur when looking or moving left/right a LOT less in analog mode. Other games like Doom or even HL2 don't really look any different at all. I keep it on DVI unless the game shows improvement in analog.
If the game has a refresh rate selector within it - you should be able to swap to 75hz with no issue...otherwise I guess you could exit to your desktop and change the res by hand, too...assuming the game will let you.
