Thinkin of getting the HP zd7000 to do Photoshop and Autocad work on.
You guys at the [H] have always been right on the mark, any thoughts?
Thanks

Well I personally would get a Sager NP4750 over the HP. You might want to check them out. Sager np4750 . You can find out a lot of information about them at Notebookforums.com also.

good power houses...wouldn't get one if you plan on carrying it often

Well most people consider sagers pretty good laptops. I carry mine with me just about everywhere. I take mine to lans and i carry it around campus all day. Any other questions?

The HP 7000 is nice laptop but for the same amount of money you can get a similarly
configured Sager with a higher screen resolution.

Some pluses I like about the HP:

Great sound for a laptop
Media card readers (great with digital cameras)
Full size keyboard

I recommend the Gateway m505x (Centrino so your looking at great battery life with a radeon 9600 graphics card at 995.) Or the eMachines 68XX model A64 with the Radeon 9600. Both are good power houses, perform well, the Gateway has a few more little features to it but they score the same in aquamark3. If I remember correctly doesn't the HP only have a nvidia 440 in it? I may have to refresh my self on this system but I normally stay away from HP and Compaq for real power systems. The two systems I recommended or def. the sager would serve you better. The emachines goes for about 1100 or less if you find one and get lucky. But those are my recommendations. On a side note Sager and Alienware notebooks are pretty much identical. Hope this helps you. (Also both the emachines and the gateway system can be overclocked on the graphics card side to above the radeon 9700 and there processors are upgradable! If you check on the forums you can find links to the gentleman that put the 3400 A64 in his system. On the gateway you'll have to wait till I post a guide as I have not found anyone who has done it yet but I have to get my hands on a mobile chip for it. ^-^

Actually i believe alienware uses uniwill laptops. The sager's battery life is about 2hrs 15 minutes just browsing and word processing. Doing heavier tasks it gets less. Watching a DVD brings it down to about 1hr45min. The sager does have great sounding 5.1 audio (yeah i know it's a laptop). It also has a spidif out if you wanna hook it up to a home theatre reciever.

Cnet likes the ZD7000

Thoughts: 2 hr battery life (or less)
Heavy: 9lbs

I can't figure out if it has DVI out or not.

If it is just for photo shop, I would look at the 17" powerbook. It's 2 pounds lighter and gets better battery life

ZD8000 is coming out soon:

Cnet likes a lot of things =)

I like reviews from the end user, because they are a lot more reseptive to things that can go wrong with their new $1k+ laptops. Big websites like cnet get them free and only tend to focus on the features and functionality compared to other things on the market, i.e. giving the gamecube a lower rating for not having a dvd playback ability.

I have the zd7030. I like it alot but for what you want I don't recomend the GeForce. ATI would be better suited for you.

edit: Here is a link to a site dedicated to HP/Compaq laptops. You can ask over there but keep in mind that these guys could be a little biased. http://www.hplaptopforums.com
