I’m still enjoying my HP Z2 G4 SFF with 4060 and it’s I5 8500 and 16gb of ram. Just wondering what I could put in it for a processor? I’ve seen an HP spec that said it could take a 9900 but another forum post that said they can only run those with the high power board ( which came in a MT platform ). I know it’ll take an 8700 or a 9700 but being very different chips I’m not sure which of those I should choose.

Performance-wise, I think the 8700 and 9700 benchmark very closely - depending on what you're doing with them, of course. You can also check if you can find a deal on one of the equivalent Xeons (e.g., Xeon E-2278G, though that one is rated at 80W TDP).

Not sure about the 9900... I'm guessing you have the 310W PSU? That definitely sound like it would be questionable, along with the RTX 4060.

Yeah it’s the 310w PSU for now. It’s completely stable the way it is. But I’ve had one of the 400w PSU’s on an Amazon watch list forever.

I never thought about a Xeon in these, but they did come with them.
