ok, i am working on a HP xt953 it is having issues shuting down. A little back ground it is a fresh install of windows 98 SE. Now i went threw and was testing the power supply, when i unhooked the A drive and shut it down it shut down just fine... so i tried it with the A drive upluged in and the cd-rom unpluged and it restarted instead of shuting down, so i figured it was just a bad power supply. So i order a new PS for it, it came in today i get it all hooked up turn it on, everything working great, i goto shut down and it just restarts...
So what is going on with this thing...
Any ideas???
Everything works fine just when you goto shutdown it just restarts....

If I understand you correctly, everything works fine if you disconnect the A drive, which I assume is a 3.5 drive. In any combination where the A drive IS connected, the system malfunctions.

Call me crazy, but I'd say that the problem might be the 3.5 drive. You can get one for $10. Maybe try another one and see what happens. You can always return it. I dare say that the PSU was not the problem.

Most of the time when I see this problem it is a motherboard issue. You could try a BIOS update if it specifically lists your problem as a fix.
