The Blackbird cometh

You guys will really love this machine. Not like anything you have seen. However, if you like a painted circus clown by Smooth on your rig and pretty colored lights all over then this is not the machine for you. Remember that Voodoo had a hand in it, and it lives up to its namesake, BLACKbird.
 
That isn't always true. I have two DIY pcs and two Macs. So outside of the Macs, I usually build my own, but sometimes there are things you can't get in the aftermarket, and the Blackbird will have some very, very cool stuff.

The Blackbird line is HP's middle gaming line-up with the actual Voodoo's being the high end systems. So they will be priced quite reasonably. I bet you will see a lot of enthusiasts configuring it at the low-end and then popping their own stuff in. This case is an absolute beast, and probably the best out there.

Trust me. You may be eating crow.;)
 
2500$ for the baseline model?

The case better be really *really* nice for that price. Judging by the descritpion (removed picture?) it'll have some aluminum extrusions allover, That's a big hit for me! But, seriously, this guy better shake a mean martini.

If yo know anything about HP Labs, then you'll know they have tons of proprietary technology. Unlike Dell, HP has a lot of in-house R&D. Since this is the first-gen, there is nothing earth shattering, but there are something very cool things incorporated into the rig which I am not disclosed to discuss right now.

Yeah, the configs are pretty high end but no p35 or x38 mobos yet. I think there might be some sub-$2500 configs, which is what I was told but am not positive yet. The case does not have extrusions but is cast. The way it is laid out would make it impossible to extrude or be cost prohibitive. But let me tell you Arcygenical, if you like compartmentalized cases with a dark and subdued look, you will love this case.
 
a water cooled pc with the psu at the bottom seems like a problem waiting to happen ;)
 
The blackbird is in the latest CPU magazine (just given to me at PDXLAN tonight). I just read the article. I'd scan it but I'm a bit lazy.

Looks neat from the side I guess, not sure if it'll fly with everyone. Still cheers to HP for hiring real designers and giving it a shot. The little hype behind it at least makes people pay attention to cases.

That one gave me a bit of a chuckle, especially with the features listed in the article being things such as "a removable side panel," and "customizable bios." And a tool-less waterblock on the cpu doesn't sound like such a great idea.

I could be wrong, it might be good. But more likely than that it'll be just like any other pre-built "high-performance pc," a ridiculous pricetag on a subpar product.
 
what do u need a tool less waterblock for ??? its not that it is something that u need to take off and on all the time :confused::rolleyes:

lol.. i hope you never want to run an IT department, just think about building 250 PCs!

In bulk you simply can not beat HP / Dell etc for price.

For a games PC I agree, it has to be home built but in this case VoodooPC are involved and my god can they build systems!
 
Guys lets not take this too far off topic. It's about the case. Not the specs or anything else.

i think its better with the psu on the bottom and the mobo inverted like the lian li v series cases. since the cpu would be the lowest thing on the mobo if u get a cpu block leak it would drip onto the divider between the mobo area and the psu. therefore it wouldnt leak onto the psu.
 
From what I'm hearing it's aluminum with vertical fins (I'm expecting the front similar to Dell's xps tower only with vertical fins instead..or similar to what Bonzanego did with his hotrod case mod.

The CPU mag article said the side panels are floating which hopefully means you can mod them from their original finish (said to be similar to the same black finish used on their laptops....which is a laugh because of the horrible orange peel on those laptops).

If HP really wants to make an impact, they should give them to modders to really show it off.

I've seen the case first hand and will see it again this wednesday at the launch event. the case is very well designed and as is the water cooling system inside it. it's also fuckin' sexy. granted, it's proprietary HP designed water cooling but I could see little flaws with it. I'd like to say I'm quite capable of judging the quality of water cooling as I used to sell it and still use it.

the blackbird's positioning will be more of a luxury system, those who simply want the best performance, quality, and a warranty all at the same time.
 
Actually, I have seen (touched even) the entire proto type while attending QuakeCon in August.

To say the watercooling had "little flaws" is a bit of an understatment. Unless they took our feedback and changed things, I know for a fact the tubing was INSANELY small at 1/4" or less ID.

Besdies that, they had some LED color issues to work out, but in genearal, the product was VERY well thought out. Case in point, the use of a video card support arm and the completely tool-less chassis.

Highlights for me where the use of all "off the shelf" products as well as the integrated swtich (that didn't work at the time) to turn on\off the led's on the case. Oh, and the use of a slimline, slot load DVDRW drive was also very slick.
 
I was supposed to attend the HP NYC event the past few days but could not, otherwise I would have a slew of pictures. They have 15 or so on display. Maybe someone else will show them.
