Please help me make my mind up. I'm literally about to hear the doorbell and receive an LG W2361V any minute that I ordered yesterday from an etailer. This one

It's got all the spec I want and need, no question of that. My dilemma is that I'm in love with this HP model, same spec, I just think it looks awesome. Do I open the LG and forget about the HP, or do I send the LG back? In so doing, it would cost me in postage, plus the HP is more expensive. What is your opinion, is LG superior picture quality and I should just forget about the looks of the HP? Also, though the HP speakers are not gonna be great, they would be handy for sometimes when I don't want to use headphones and just want to stream a radio chatshow or something like that.

Well thanks for all the help.:p

If anyone cares, I've received the LG and will be opening it shortly. Quite exciting really. Apart from reasonably bland looks, I know it'll be good. If I'm not happy though, I'll return, pay the postage, and get the slightly more expensive HP. Though the HP is out of stock everywhere till beginning of november, so HP need to pull their finger out. Ebay has a few though.

I have the exact same monitor and it is a 2ms monitor. Its quite fast, subjectively faster (less blurring) than the Samsung XL2370 I have and slightly sharper too. So methinks you can't go wrong with it. Blacks are great too.

You're right. I've just set it up. WOW!!!

It's night and day from my old monitor. It's so wide, it's amazing.:D
Great monitor, very pleased.

From my experiences with both brands I think the LG's are far superior. I have a 19" and 20" LG widescreen monitors and both have very good picture quality and no ghosting. I have also used a recently purchased HP 22" widescreen monitor and although the picture was pretty good, it had terrible ghosting even though it supposedly has 2ms Response time. Even on the desktop while minimizing windows the HP would ghost.

Personally I am sticking with LG.

I've been calibrating. Tell me, should I be able to see the horizontal black pinstripe lines that separate each thread and run left to right on the main page, or just a solid colour background? I can see the lines if I move my brightness up, or I can leave it where it is and not see them. Which is more correct?

You mean on the forums homepage? Yes you should be able to see those lines easily. If not, maybe your gamma is too low? Use the f-engine settings and try out each preset to see if it suits you.

Yep, exactly,. like the homepage. I do have it now so I can see the lines and nothing on my monitor is washed out since bringing gamma down a bit, so I think I've pretty much got it as it's meant to be. What's the f-engine, is that the fortemanager?

Can you tell me what settings you used on your LG? I've got it set up pretty decent now, but trying to tweak contrast, gamma and brightness on the monitor, and then contrast, gamma and brightness from the ati catalyst control centre makes it a bit confusing. I haven't installed anything from the CD that came with the LG, I suppose I should right? Currently, I have monitor settings like this:

Brightness 71
Contrast 75
Gamma -50

and ATI CCC set like this:

I tried a calibration test from the net. It's pretty difficult because once I had settings tweaked to pass the first test, another test would come up later requiring me to change settings which would mess up the settings that let me pass the first test. :p

I haven't really fiddled with the user settings yet, but use the f-engine presets. Its the second button from the bottom on the right side of your monitor. I'm sure you can bring it up through ForteManager, but it doesn't work for me in Win7, no matter what I try. Sigh.

GRiD using the movie setting is right side of awesome.
Regular browsing I use normal setting. (Samsung is bettter here)
