HP use standard PSU's?

As above. They don't have proprietary pinout or anything like the old Dell's, do they? The machine is an NF3-based Sempron, and it had onboard ATI graphics and a 250W supply. It won't power a 6800GS I put in, so I'll give her my old PSU if it will work.

I'm pretty sure the 1.3Ghz Celeron HP tower that I had used a standard Micro ATX power supply,
so you should be good.

Damn. I didn't think to check if it was mATX or ATX-sized. Eh, I can pick her up an Antec or some other decent-but-cheap setup if what I have won't fit. There's CC, BB, Staples, and a little boutique all within 2 miles of her house.

Question, the NVidia driver has placed up the warning about reducing speed since I left the GS in there with the PCI-e power unhooked. Will it run indefinitely this way? The most stress it will get is IE7 or Super Text Twist:D

You could always use a 2 x Molex to PCI-e power cable.
I'm not sure how much the 6800GS needs power wise but I know that a
friend of mine has the agp version in a Compaq with an athlon xp 3200 and stock power supply.

i have a 3 year old compaq with a s939 sempron and its matx with onboard nvidia graphics, and it takes a normal atx psu, i have used that psu in other machines and other psu's in the compaq.

I did that, it wouldn't boot at all :( But, all I did was unhook that power line and thought, "what the hell". It is currently working, but I don't want to be running over there every day because of some goofiness. I have an old Antec 380 from a Sonata that should work quite well.

Thank you for that info. The new PSU is now in the diaper bag ready for travel:p
