HP Pavilion Problem

I'm trying to figure out what is wrong with a friends computer and am stumped.

She has an HP Pavilion 7850. Her problems began when one day her computer shut off while it was on. She hasn't been able to get it to work since.

I took a look at it today and checked all connections inside (just in case) and everything looked fine. The problem wasn't with the outlet either. I also could hear the power button click when I depressed it, so it's not like it isn't reaching the actual switch. The only peculiar thing is that after unplugging the power cord and plugging it back in, when you first (and only first) press the power button, the hard drive activity light blinks quickly but there is no sound during this time.

My first guess is the power supply. However, it has a green indicator light on the rear that appears to show that it is working (to some degree?). It is an exceedingly small Hipro Model HP-K1363AB.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

First try the recovery Cd from HP. turn on and try to launch from cd, if not try this;

Disconnect the power cord, and the twenty pin molex power to mother board. and pull the motherboard battery. pull the jumper pin from O_O O and put it to O O_O leave it for a couple of minutes ( shouldn't need to but it does require it) put jumper back where it was and replace power connector. then install new battery. plug it back in and try it to see what happens. should workif not : remove everything from mother board except moniter and sound ( if you are not using the onboard sound) turn it on and count the beeps,
HP has a bios and error message discription available attheir web site, printit to use as you are trying to find the problem.

let us know what happens.

Sounds like a Power issue to me, my mom bought an HP last year and the pwr supplied died after about 3months... Oh and that Green light was still on....:D

Sounds like a bad psu or board. Have a differant psu you could try?

BTW i probably live less than 4 miles from you hehe. No to many PA folks around here :)
