I have a HP Pavilion dv1000, and I am having problems with the wireless networking and with heat.
We have many other devices that we use on our wireless network - all through a Linksys WRT54G, configured with default settings eg no special security settings etc. This laptop disconnects from and reconnects to the wireless network about 12 times per hour. It was working fine at first, but it has been disconnecting increasingly often. I brought the laptop back to the retailer, who had it connected to their wireless network for about 45 minutes without problems. Because of this, they returned it to me, and they would like me to test it further to ensure it isn't a problem with my network - even though this laptop and the router are still using exactly the same settings that were working a couple of weeks ago, when I bought it. How likely is it that it is a hardware problem?
Also, the laptop has been getting unbearably hot in the area of the CPU heatsink. MBM doesn't seem to have settings for this laptop, and I would like to measure the temperature to determine whether it is meant to be getting this hot.
I think I am going to have to return this laptop and get a different one, and I would appreciate the advice of some of the experts that frequent this forum.
