I have a 17" HP Pavilion dv9074CL notebook that I'm having a power issue with. When I plug the power adapter into the notebook, it lights up. However the notebook will not turn on. Do you think the motherboard could have been fried? I don't think the cable is bad because the light does turn on (charging light on side of laptop). Could I need a new battery? Any suggestions appreciated!

Do any lights on the notebook turn on? I've seen notebooks with completely dead batteries where the notebook wouldn't even power on if the battery was done for.

The only light that turns on is the light that that indicates that the charger is plugged into the laptop.

Most likely the port for the AC power plug needs to be repaired/replaced - a common problem with laptops. Though, I'm just guessing here. ;)
