hp mod?

Maybe. HP has been better than most at using more-or-less standard form factors. I just fixed up my sister's old HP (P3 600) and it used a uATX motherboard, normal ATX power supply, normal drives, etc. Later P3's and at least early P4's from HP also appear to use standard parts (with the possible exception of the PSU form factor, but you can work around that). Check out www.formfactors.org(EDIT:link fixed) and compare it to what you've got in the case.
 
one of my buddies is currently turning his e-machines case from an matx to an atx. just sneeds to get one of our other firends over to weld some aluminum on or something.

I dunno if that's really relevant to what you're asking, but I'm just saying, anything can be done with the right resources and determination. :)

Depends on how old and what case.. I just took apart my old HP/Compaq P4 machine from 2003/2004 in a mid tower and put it into a Micro Fly. The HP/Compaq case was for a mATX motherboard and it would fit any other mATX mobo I could throw in it. The mount points are the same and the risers are the right height. Nothing inside was proprietary either.
 
well i was trying to give my uncle the case in a build I was doing dor him but it seems I may need an adapter where the mobo connects to hp case. any help w/ suggestions?
 
I have installed quite a few mATX mobos in hps and emachines at work, usually hp 512n or 533w and such, but most athlon xp and pentium boxes are matx, at least hp and emachine.

QFT.

I have 4 hps currently, dating from 2006 back to 1997. All of them are pavillions and all are mATX. No modding req. for new mATX mobo.
 
sorry I meant where the power button connect to the mobo, but I figured it out, just had to be a little creative and pull out a sharp razor blade. ;)
