Does anyone have any thoughts on this monitor?

I sold my Dell 3007 ( I know, you think I'm nuts) but I got my money back and I'm looking for a smaller alternative...sometimes bigger is not necessarily better ;)

The picture quality is good, but I thought it wasnt brilliant for gaming. The NEC EA231WMIs I have now seem much better, they're IPS too but a lot cheaper :)

I really like mine. Gaming is fine on it took about a day to get use to the slightly over-saturated reds during some games, but now I wouldn't want to go back. No really noticeable lag during gaming. I've read this monitor gets even better calibrated, so I have an X-Rite Eye-One Display 2 Colorimeter coming tomorrow. Even though it's only calibrated by my eye for now, Lightroom looks great on it as well.

I ordered mine direct from HP's business section (even though it's for personal use.) You can likely budge free overnight shipping from them.

BTW, there is a HUGE thread on this monitor here: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=132697

That thread is information overload at this point. But you can see for yourself the quality issues some have been complaining about. If I look hard enough, I can kind of see a slight red tinge on one edge of the monitor, but just barely. no monitor is perfect. Some of the HP's do have problems, but I think more often, people are a bit too picky.

Oh, and HP has a pretty great warranty on these as well (at least last I checked, they have been supporting it too.)

I agree with SBB. I was also looking at the HP 2475W as compared to the DELL U2410 not so long ago.

Price will be a deciding factor (sometimes the only factor) in your purchase.

Now in my country the HP 2475W was retailing for something like $1500. The monitor was worth nowhere near this amount of money considering its features and considering the NEC2490wuxi was the same price and vastly superior monitor.

The price then fell to $800 when the Dell U2410 was released. Still not worth the money.
Especially considering that the monitor seems to suffer from exactly the same problems as the DELL U2410 and to the same extent. There are around the same amount
of reports of bad temperature uniformity, pixels, dirt etc as for the Dell U2410.
Not surprising considering the Dell uses only a revised panel of the HP.

Ended up going the Dell U2410 route in September/October as an early adopter when first released in US/UK/Aus. BIG mistake. Suffice to say much annoyance resulted and delivering a decent monitor was beyond Dells capacity.
Bad uniformity, pixels, backlight. Promised new replacements only to get other peoples seconds (their address was still attached to the box!:confused:).
Anyway 4 Dell U2410's later I am looking at my Dell 228WFP TN and thinking I am tired of TN, what else is there?

Later read the NEC EA231wmi disussion. Convinced me to buy as the majority of reports were leaning positive (unlike the Dell were most reports are now negative).
I am now the very proud and happy owner of the NEC EA231wmi and it is a fantastic monitor.

No it is not a premium monitor, but then neither is the Dell or HP even though they are marketed as such.
EA231wmi sells for a lot less than the Dell/HP but based on performance of my monitor is worth approx equal of Dell U2410/Hp 2475W.
Because I imported I ended up paying approx Dell U2410 price but it was worth it even with 1 inch less ( no I am not trying to convince myself. I have tested the monitor and it is THAT good. In color accuracy outperformed the Dell by significant margin and subjective image quality is miles better (prob due to less grain and sharper image 1920x1080 res at 23" v 1920x1200 res at 24" for Dell)
Also FAR better build, looks and design. NEC have a reputation for quality monitors and I can now see why. It is not undeserved based on my sample.

EDIT: Sorry. My prices are based on AU dollars.
