HP LP2475 USB hub doesn't work (EVEN using the cable)

This is just so ridiculous. The USB ports in my day-old HP LP2475 don't work. Already plugged the USB display-to-pc (laptop) cable, and well, nothing happens. I cannot use any of the 6 USB ports in the monitor, so I've to use those of my laptop, and it's really annoying.

Has anybody reported this issue? Is there a way to solve it?

I made it work with some magic trick I found, I'll put it here for ppl to know what to do if this problem appears:

I did this with my PC working, so I guess it's not neccesary to shut it down.

Unplug all the cables, including the power cord. Now plug them again and then plug something in the USB port. It should work now.

Additionally, I've also noticed I've completely lost the sound in my pc. It's dissapointing. Maybe it has to do with the HDMI, but think about it, why would somebody move all the sound reproduction to a display that doesn't include speakers? sigh..
