I’ve never been a fan of rebate systems when we could just pass on the savings at purchase, but with HP launching a paperless rebate system it will save a few trees, and speed up the process greatly.

The "paperless" rebate program gives U.S. customers the option to redeem their rebates by entering just two pieces of information online—their order number and billing zip code—instead of completing a mail-in rebate form.

So not instead of the excuse it got lost in the mail, now it will get lost in nowhere. Awsome!

hehe, they've killed the purpose of rebates then. Their supposed to be mail-in because 80% of people dont bother to do the work of mailing it in, but when they bought the product it was because they thought they could save some money.
lol

Lets hope more companies follow suit.

It doesn't entirely defeat the purpose. A lot of people still either forget to do them, or are too lazy to do them. IMO the companies randomly pick rebates to not send out until you call or email them to check on it hoping you will forget. I had a $120 rebate like that. I checked online on the status and it said verified for weeks until I emailed them, then they sent it out the next day.

I have had few issues with mail-in's, especially lately... I was stiffed for a $50 on one about 5 years back on a CRT from Frys (manufacturer rebate) but lately going through frys, ultra, antec and others has been great. Fastest one: Microsoft 4 weeks for $10 of a wireless desktop.

With that said, these companies obviously count on a a certain percentage of people not mailing in their rebates, or not following directions precisely. I take the stand that I probably will get screwed out of one now and then, I just make sure to precisely follow the directions and I rarely have problems... My gain for following directions, those too lazy their loss.
