HP Laptops?

All I know is that I see roughly 400,000,000,000,000 HP refurbs on the net, let that tell you what it will, all I know is I probably wouldn't have faith in one.

I used one for 2.5 years. It was decent at best. Great features, plenty fast (for its time) but there were hard drive and cooling issues. Cooling issues are present in most AMD laptops, so it's not their fault. The HDD is just a random failure. To tell you the truth, most notebooks are really the same. There will be fanboys of each brand, but they are all built with similar quality (except for some really expensive ones, which have exceptional build quality and use only the best parts). Just make sure to get an extended warranty, and you'll have a smile on your face when your laptop is replaced for free in 2-3 years.

They got caught lying about what video card was in theirs, so I avoid them.

Is that the same with Compaq, as HP now owns Compaq?

I have an hp and a toshiba, and my mom has dell and ibm... out of all of these lap tops I love my hp and ibm the most, they are the most reliable, great speed, good graphics for games and all and both companies have great warrenties and customer service.

Thanks for the advice/thoughts
I think I'm going to go ahead and check out the HP ZD7000

From what I've read on http://www.zd7000forums.com just about every single person there likes their laptops, and the video card isn't as bad as I first thought.

If it turns out to not be so good, I'll just return it :D

I have to say I'm a bit dissapointed in how sparce laptop reviews and whatnot are.. it would be nice if there was a mobile reviewing site around...

I see a lot of Compaq refurbs as well, I cant tell you for sure what that means though, I can only assume, but what I know is I wouldn't trust any compaq/HP that wasnt one of their High end ones(more HP) because I see many positive things about those and hardly any refurbs.

I ordered it tonight, should get it soon
I'll keep you all posted on how well it performs (if you're interested)

HP laptops are okay, I would get a Sony or Toshiba before I get another HP.

I just bought a ze4610us so I hope they are ok. I have only had it for 2 days but I like it so far.

I got a zt3000 from hpshopping.com for ~$250 off the original price after a $100 rebate and $157 10% discount. Final price was ~$1,300.00.

Pentium M 1.4 GHz
512 MB DDR RAM
40 GB HD
8X DVD Drive
54G Wireless
15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050)
64 MB Mobility Radeon 9200

Pic is in the post pictures of your laptop thread on the 9th page. I'll probably post a summary of the ups and downs of it in the coming weeks if there's any interest at all. So far I have mostly good stuff to say about it, but there are a few quirks here and there that should be mentioned.

I've had only bad experiences with HP's desktops, but their notebooks seem to be fine. The few people I know that have them have had no problems. If you just did a simple Google search you could find several different people telling you about having ONLY bad experiences with any name brand of laptop you think of as far as reliability...it comes down to anecdotal evidence, IMO.

I'd buy a Compaq laptop before I even dared to touch an HP laptop. :D

They are good laptops, most of them however are too thick for what I want. My current laptop is 1" think, and i wouldn't have it any other way.

My zt3000 is 1" thick. Also, you know you have a good laptop when you prefer to play games on your laptop to your more powerful desktop w/ 19" flat CRT like I do :)

my compaq presario 700 exploads on demand! Yah... it's really a pain with overheating issues. 2month after i got it i had to send it back, it quit working, they had to replace the cpu (duron 1.1, yah, lighting fast!). And it hoggs battery, it's almost a desktop for me, it constantly needs to be plugged in. That's my expeirnce w/ compaq. I've had it for nearly 2 yrs now, no major problems other than 1) it's a desktop, 2) overheats for fun

I bought one about a year and a half ago...it was a pretty good laptop. Never had any problems with it...then I got a REALLY good deal on an Inspiron. The dell is much better quality...
