I've noticed that with the more recent WinXP drivers--and all of the Win7 drivers--my nVidia 9800GT won't drive my HP L2035 monitor in digital DVI. I have to manually switch to analog DVI input to get an image. Mind you, it doesn't look awful... but I know it would look better in digital.
The BIOS POST and Win7 loading screens show up in digital mode (not analog, oddly), but as soon as the login screen appears, I have to switch to analog.
Could this have something to do with the monitor's maximum pixel clock being 162 MHz--single-link DVI--while the video card's dual-link ports might be outputting a higher frequency? I would think the monitor's EDID would take care of this, but as it's an older monitor, the drivers haven't been updated in years.
I've tried to use Phoenix EDID Designer, but I guess it doesn't read 64-bit EDID info from the registry. ELDIM doesn't seem to read the information correctly, either... and in any event, it's just a viewer, not an editor.
Is there any way to manually edit the registry to set the maximum pixel clock at 162 MHz... or is there something else I should be trying?
