Anyone have experience with a HP Jetdirect 280M (wireless)?

I have a HP Laserjet 1300 and am looking to have it hooked up to my network for printing from all the computers.

My router is a D-Link DIR-655, I have a box running 2008 R2 that can be a print server if needed.

Looking at the 280M, it does not support WPA2 unfortunately, so I'd have to downgrade my wireless to WPA and reconfigure all my wireless clients.

Should I go with the 280M (wireless) or 250M/200M (wired)? Shouldi /do i need to set up a authentication server?

I can run a ethernet cable from the next room over to where the printer is going to be, but it'll be slightly fugly.

I would go with wired just for the pure fact that as you stated the wireless Jetdirect does not support WPA2, why would you want to downgrade your whole network wireless security to just print?

Wired. The wired printers we have at work spool over jobs faster than the wireless ones. This may be attributed to multiple things but I know for a fact the wireless ones we have occasionally drop a print job into thin air.

yeah, i agree with that struggle, I hate how they also drop connection or go to sleep and never re-connect.

Wireless printers SUCK, they should all have Ethernet connections plugged into a wireless router.

I gotta say go wired as well, not just to fit in, but from experience :D

I personally own a older HP LaserJet 4050N with a jet direct 615n that never fails to print (unless I send a job that's too big to process).

Alright. I ordered a 200m.

Tested out my routers shareport feature (branded sx virtual link software). Works alright if you ignore the fact it wastes a extra sheet of paper for every page you print (it prints a partial of page x, then prints page x in full, and then moves on to next page, rinse and repeat).
