Will the screen for the Envy 14 only be able to do 1600x900? or will there be an option for it to be able to do full hd at 1920x1080

Everything I have seen or heard suggests the max resolution will be 1600x900 (standard is 1366x768 all the way up to 16" notebooks, so 1600x900 should be relatively spacious).

Now if you are one of those hyper screen real estate types, you have to go with the sony vaio z series, they have a 13 with a 1920x1080p screen. A bit overkill imo, but some people want that much screen space in that small a package.

I am using a 20" desktop monitor (again, that's 20" not a mere 13") and my resolution is 1680x1050, barely more than what the envy 14 will have or the base res vaio z.

Is this Envy really worth it? I keep reading about it but is it really a powerful laptop that can compare to Clevo/Sager? Or is it just a MacBook killer or what?

The Envy 14 is really designed to go after the 13-inch MacBook Pro crowd (maybe entry 15-inch, too). I wouldn't call it extremely powerful, but it should be fast for the price.

Battery life will be the real question. HP has almost been marketing for Apple given the reputation for short lifespans with the existing Envy models.

^^ That. I look at the Envy 14 as a hybrid between the 13" and 15" MBP. A 14" 1600x900 screen would be perfect (standard 15" MBP screen is 1440x900). I have high hopes for the Envy 14. I need a good laptop for work, but prefer not to cough up $2000 for another MBP. I will if the Envy 14 disappoints, however.

The Envy 14 is next on my "list". It is going to have...

Core i5 (dual core) and Core i7 QUAD Core options up to i7-820Q. Having an 820Q available in a 14" laptop is a feat in an of itself.
ATI 5650 (possibly, 5670) graphics, with 1 GB RAM. This is much superior to the MacBook Pro and Sony Z that offer a Nvidia 330 (512, 1gb). Benchmarks have shown it to be on par or better than the 335 1gb models, and its feature set is way larger.
1600x900 screen, 410 nits of brightness, LED backlit, edge to edge glass. This screen is said to be on the same level as the Sony Z's, which is currently considered the best in the world. Higher resolution than the Apple, but of course not quite up to the Signature $4200 Z with 1920x1080. Frankly, its fine for me though.. I would have even been happy with a 1440x900, as to make the graphics card "last" longer.
Backlit keyboard - they finally learned
Integrated slot-load DVD burner. There is no Bluray drive thin enough to fit at the moment, that's slot load.
Aluminum+Magnesium alloy chassis. Metal construction etc... thin, similar to MacBook Pro
"Slice" battery which is awesome.
Lower price than previous Envy models!

All in all, they look as though they're fixing what I objected to on older models and adding even more new features.
