I was late to start my research at the new year and missed out on my eventual top choice, the asus vw266h. A recent mention alerted me to the LA2405wg, but there is very little information about it on this forum. Who here has experience with one, and how would you compare it to the vw266h or I-inc 282hpb?

My priority has been to pick up a 1920x1200 resolution monitor. Pixel pitch is less important, I think I would have been happiest with the 25.5", then 24" over the 28" I-inc. Also reliability would be a plus to have it last at least several years. The 282hpb only has a 1 year warranty, the only reason it's in the running is simply the price.

If nobody can recommend the 2405wg my last-ditch choice is the HP zr24w. I like everything about it (I can also get it for [cost + 1% = ~$385] + tax) and believe it would pair up with my dell 2007wfp best, but for $100 I would choose the less expensive 2405.

Edit: I use my PC primarily for gaming and some browsing. Infrequent use of office products.

tl;dr Tell me what you know about the la2405wg. I want information!

Oh you bet it makes sense to me. However, I'm trying to have my spend-happy self be more considerate of my wife and finances. Also, I would be just as happy in the long run with the TN as the IPS. I know what the differences are and can pick them out, but they just don't bother me in practice.

I am surprised there isn't more experience with [H] readers and this monitor. Makes me wonder why it isn't more popular.

i bumped an old thread about this monitor because i want 1920x1200 as well and nobody replied. i want info on this monitor as well but it is scarce.
what 25" does have this resolution?

The Display forum here is really great for IPS discussions, but when it comes to general TN discussion it seems to be fairly slim (because, you know, IPS is so much superior to TN panels, that people should just not bother buying a display if it isn't IPS) :p

This Display forum is only frequented by the creme de la creme. Even IPS Dell monitors have become passé. Anyone daring to have a TN monitor should be shunned:D

$200 is enough of a bargain for me to try it. I'll post my thoughts next week after I have a chance to play on it.

Much more interesting at that price! Cheapest here is 345 CHF (~$372) still.

is this an IPS? they have tons of these around some of the govt offices I work at. They are really nice.

And if they are IPS and for this price I was thinking

Hp - Asus PA246Q - Hp for eyefinity rather than shelling out 1500 for 3 P-IPS.

**-Edit - A few google searches later and its a TN. So I guess ill end up shelling for 3 P-IPS or VA-PIPS-VA

hey let us know. i am in the same boat as you are. the $199 makes it tempting.

what about the ASUS VW266H though? is that a CPA or a TN?

edit. never mind it's a TN

Mine shipped this morning, so when it arrives I'll try to give my impressions as much as possible as well.

I ordered the LA2405wg Monday morning while on sale for $200 (yes, I'm gloating), and received it Wednesday from newegg. Happily, it has zero dead pixels. I love newegg, but I dislike their monitor return policy. I would not have bought from them if I could have gotten the same monitor locally even adding tax.

Un-boxing was normal, and yes the vga cable came attached, all the other cables were not in plastic bags. I know someone here had trouble with a customer after they thought they had been given a used 2405, but mine also came like that. The usage on the backlight was at 000000 hours, and there are no blemishes on the screen, bezel, or stand.

All of my previous experience with gaming on a flat panel has been with the Dell 2007wfp (a02). An awesome SPVA monitor that really has spoiled me.

Side by side I can see the differences. It looks like the Dell gives off the brown/orange hues of my desktop background with more ease. As though it doesn't have to try as hard. Playing with the brightness, contrast, and color settings I've gotten the 2405 closer, but comparing the stretched desktop I can tell a difference. The 2405's TN comes off as slightly washed out next to the SPVA as expected. When I move my head I can see the color fade in the top corners, but again if I'm doing any activity other than looking for flaws I haven't noticed this at all.

I've spent a 2-4 hours each playing Rift, TF2, and Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. Wanting to try out the multi-monitor support of SC:FA the most I've really been going to town on it. With the video card in my signature I've been able to crank the settings on this aging game with no difficulty. It really is beautiful and one of my favorite RTSs to play. I can report that I have noticed zero issues between those three games. In-game with any movement I do not notice a difference color or brightness-wise between the two monitors (obviously SC:FA is the only game I have tried on both monitors simultaneously). When I'm playing Rift or TF2 windowed it's been awesome having the side monitor for viewing other windows such as chats, teamspeak, vent, and firefox.

My conclusion is this: for myself I can point to all the differences and tell you 'there they are', but come game-time or reading or work I stop noticing. That's my personality, and I'm very happy with the purchase. If you're considering this monitor you'll have to gauge whether you would be bothered by any of the weaknesses in TNs. Hopefully I've provided enough information for you to judge. If this would be your only monitor or just pairing with other TNs some of these weaknesses will be less apparent. Seeing the monitor at work next to the SPVA of the Dell I would say the 2405 with its 1920x1200 resolution would be well worth a sale price around $250-$270. The $200 myself and some others found seems to have been a mistake on Newegg's part and was available for only a few hours.

As a side note I am very satisfied with the monitor mounts I bought at monoprice. They have their quirks, but with proper mounting I have gotten them to work very well for me. I will try to post a few pics of my setup for the weekend.

I hope that helps anyone trying to make a decision on this monitor. I'm open to questions if you have any.

Thanks for your impressions. I'm curious about if it works okay in portrait mode? Or is the pseudo-3D effect of each eye seeing a different level of contrast too much on this panel?

Hi Maestro,

How is this monitor for reading text for long periods? What's the anti-glare coating like? Mild or Agressive?

What does the text look like if you increase the font size to 135% (130dpi) via the Desktop properties of Windows?

How low can you lower the monitor? Can the bottom of the bezel touch the desktop?

What panel is used in this monitor?

Thanks,
