How's this OC?

Hey all, I've had this setup for a few months and was wondering if this OC was okay? Please bear in mind that I wanted a "silent" compy ;) and so I went with a Tt Silent Boost K7. I know it isn't the best OC'ing HSF but noise was an issue. I've got a Barton 2500+ running at 3000+ (2.1GHz). At idle, it runs at ~50c and on load at ~55c. Vcore's at 1.725v. Is this OC alright running on an air-cooled HSF? Thanks for the feedback.

Very nice overclock..
I had a 2400 thoughbred and I got it to 2.6ghz with 2.1v ;)

Thanks KoZLop ;)

The temps are okay? It's not too high for a 2k rpm air fan right? lol.. it's running at 49c as I'm writing this :D

Actually, I've had to downclock a little since then. It's stable enough for playing UT2004 for a couple of hours, but apparently when I ran Prime, it failed after like 1 minute only. *shrugs* I've got it at 2.0GHz w/ 1.75 vcore now. Guess I'll run Prime during the night and see if it's stable enough.

NT but many desktop 2500+'s do 2.2GHz (3200+) @ stock 1.65V :)
You need to get a better hsf, TT is all looks these days. Those temps are fine running with that oc. Beware of going over 60 C.

Thanks Dave,

Will do ;).. but with my current set up, what would you recommend? Thanks.

Thermalright SP-97 + 92mm fan (get a quiet one)
or
Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu (included 92mm fan is very quiet even on full speed, I had one...oc'd my 2500+ to 2.3GHz with it)

You may have just got a bad 2500+. I haven't seen many Barton 2500+'s that need more than 1.75V to get to 3200+ speed.

Hey, thanks for your help. I downclocked from 2.1GHz (unstable) to 2.0GHz and it's running fine now (and at about 46 too). I guess my Silent Boost is really only good for silence ;) lol. I'll eventually get an SP-97 or 7000A.. though I checked with Zalman's site, and I'm not sure if it'll fit with my mobo. My PSU is right about at the end of my mobo (A7N8X-E Deluxe) and it's a questionable fit.

sometime it helps if you put 2 fans infront of the heatsink fan ;)

Yeah...forgot to ask. How is the airflow inside your case? Might want to tidy up some wires and stuff to make sure the hsf is getting cool air.

Yeah I realize that ;)

My case airflow is decent I think: Antec SLB w/ 2 x 120mm fans, all aluminum case. I did a wire tuck so that's all good. The case temp usually stays around 25-28c so that's not a problem.

I just put on AS5, and the temp actually went UP about 5c :( I followed the website, now I'm really confused

Make sure the base of the hsf is making good contact with the core.

Hey Dave,

Yeah, the contact is good.. I'm running out of ideas, think I'll just leave it for now and see what happens after the break-in period, if it's still the same, either I'll leave it or resort back to my other generic Tt paste. Thanks for your help!
