Hows this for a cool case?

I'm somewhat new to the modding side of the PC world, but here is one of my projects (and so far the only one I've started). I guess you could say this is a low budget mod, because I've got next to nothing in the parts, and I work on it as I get time. Hopefully the weather will clear up before long and I can get it finished. Sorry about the low quality pics. The cam is old and hopefully I'll get a new one soon. :)

I'll post more pics as I get it finished.

Specs (so far):

IBM Aptiva mobo
P 233mmx
128mb ram
onboard sound/video
3gb JTS Champion hd
no CD

edit: I resized the pics so they dont look as bad. The last one is of the progress I've made so far.

It's interesting and very original. Ya might want some more openings for fans though.

Kinda makes you wonder why Dell doesn't package them in 5 gal. buckets don't it?

Ha ha, very nice... 5 gallon buckets can double for a lot of things, i knew a guy who had a subwoofer mounted in a 5 gal bucket in the back of his car, supposedly it gave pretty good sound.

BTW welcome to the forums!

12" subs fit perfectly in a 5 gallon bucket. Yes, I once had a 12 in a bucket, yes, it sounded pretty damn good, better than my 1st home built box.

In highschool I worked for an audio customizer. When anyone wanted a round custom enclosure we started with a 5G bucket, and molded fiberglass around it!!

Ghettotastic!

Lov the idea. although you should cut a second fan hole somewhere around where the CPU is.

I'm thinking about dremeling some vents on the lower side by the power supply since it'll be mounted to the bottom of the bucket. I've got a small ~90w for it that I had from another project, so that should work fairly well.

The big nasty hole where the ports are will be covered with very thin plexi I swiped from a frozen drink machine at work (it was broke anyway so it was saved from the trash). I'm still stumped on how to mount the cdrom and harddrive. I'm thinking some plexi and bolts, or even some more of the trusty metal strapping.

Ghettotastic!

exactly. :)

That's just COOL. Mount some support on there some how so you can put the monitor on-top of it. Now that would be an eye catcher at the lan parties!

lol

Seriously, what I would do is take a slot.in (trayless) CD drive, ynd mount it thru the lid on the side away from the processor. To hold this in place, first strengthen the lid by epoxying 5mm Plexi to it. Then construct a mounting device (two angled pieces of something hard), which holds the CD drive.

Then cut some vents about 1 cm aqbove the bottom edge, along the side with the proc. Place the PSU somewhere on this side. Mow add some kind of filter, for example panty hose, to the holes, and replace the top fan with a 120mm panaflo.

Before I go on, I'd like design credits :p

That sounds good Little Grabbi, but I'm working with what I've got. I might put better fans and stuff in it at a later date, but for now it'll have a standard tray-load CD drive. The idea of the CD drive sticking out the top isnt bad. I'll have to measure the area behind the board to see if it'll fit like that. I was gonna use a 10gb Quantum Bigfoot, but it was waaaay too big to squeeze in there with a CD drive.

Tomorrow I'm gonna lug home another bucket and a lid. If this project comes together fairly well I'm gonna try it with a smaller board (thinking micro ATX if I can scare one up).

After its done I'll have to think of a name for it. Any ideas?

I can think of some great ghetto versions of the G4 cube.

Find a small-ish 12" wooden packaging crate type thing. vertical top load CD, mini-ITX and all.

Mmm got me thinking.

Just an update:

I got it painted and the power supply mounted. I'm posting a pic of the (somewhat) finished product too. Pretty much all I have to do now is wire up the internals, cut the fan slots, get power/reset buttons, and an LED or few and I'm set.

Hey, I'll think of this next time I need any case w/o paying $50 rediculous prices for the cheapest cases

Here's a name for ya... "Project ghetto 5-gallon bucket"

Seriously though, very ghetto but very cool, I can honestly say that I've never seen that before. :D

It's all fun and games until some moron tries shoving his pop can through the fan opening thinking it's a garbage can.

That has got to be the MOST GHETTO THING I'VE EVER SEEN ...

.... I LOVE IT!

Naah, I added a fan grill so that wont be happening. I was thinking more along the lines of if I ever use it as a footstool it wouldnt feel to pretty on the feet... :p
