How's my wiring? (pic)

Cleaned up some of my wires today. The only visable wires are the 9800pro power cable, the 120mm fan wire (which i tucked in behind the panel after i took the pic), and the side panel fan wire. I'm thinking of rounding my IDE cables. Also, the wires at the top are barely visible unless you are sitting on the floor looking into the computer. Any comments/suggestions will be appreciated.

It'll be fine until it dies , all I have is one hard drive, dvdrw, 9800pro, lights, and the pump anyway.

only... lights and a pump are a bit more than that psu should be doing

round that ide cable, replace the psu, and you got a perfect rig

Not very good, actually. The only thing I have OC'ed is the video card (400/350), and I'm idling at 38 and 40 full load. That's with all my fans on full (quite noisy). On half power its around 41 idle and 44-45 full load. Case temp is 31 idle and 32-33 full load.

for your wiring i say it is awsome, there is one thing i would do. is sleeve the cables you can see like the fan cables and the power cable going to the video card and the one to the cd rom.

That's not always the case though.. i've seen PSUs take out everything.. including the keyboard and mouse!

I was thinking that 5 minutes ago. I could easily do it too. I am also going to drill a hole for the radiator fans through the motherboard tray.

That is the worst attitude to be taking... WORST. A power supply IS the heart of your system. You might not be able to have a simple transplant next time it dies...

I used to feel the same way, it'll be fine 'til it dies... until one sad day..

Motherboard and drives all dead. CPU dead. Memory dead. PSU... on fire.


And as far as your wiring goes, it's pretty good. You dont really have much going on in the case, which helps. It's 10x harder when you've got multiple opticals and more than 1 hard drive. I'm very impressed you kept it that tidy with W/C though. Kudos.

Also, what resevoir are you using? If you get bubbles in the loop, how long does it take for them to completely bleed out? Can you get a closeup of it for me?

It's a custom res that I made. Here's a thread I made about it on bit tech . It is basically a tennis ball container with 2 holes for the barbs, and lots of super glue (although it looks fine, not messy at all). It takes about 30 minutes to an hour to bleed the system out, I wasn't really paying attention to time.

Back to the PSU, I do not really have a choice right now for it, since I just bought it about a month ago. If I install anything else into the system I will probably get a better one. I'm not sure if you guys know, but its a 400W psu which I figured should be fine (I also only had around $60 to spend). Would adding another fan in the PSU case be any good for it?

EDIT - And those pics of the res/comp are pretty old, anything wrong in them I have fixed. Also, I replaced all of the silicone sealant I used with rubber cement, so everything is sealed and its strong as hell. The pics also give you an idea of what everything looked like before I cleaned my wires up.

Is it just a standard tennis ball container? The really flexible ones? You are a brave soul. Although i know it wouldn't break or anything i'd just be worried that it'd flex too much and the sealant would start leaking...

As far as the PSU wattage doesn't really mean much, especially for generic PSUs. Generic manufacturers tend to 'over rate' their PSUs for various reasons. They rate them at much lower temps than they would normally operate, thus rating their efficiency waaaaaaaay higher than they would ever be. A quality PSU even if it is lower wattage most likely would handle the load much better. I like: Antec, FSP (Fortron/Sparkle Power), and Enermax supplies. I hear GREAT things about PC Power & Cooling, but they're often times 2x the cost, and i've never sprung for one of their supplies yet. I hear alright things about the TT power supplies/Vantec power supplies, but i don't generally stray from my staple group. Just my 2 cents. You could have a generic power supply that works well, but my super easy way of measuring a power supply's quality is just to lift it up. If it's really light, chances are it's a piece of shit.

Yea, its a regular container. I compensated for the flexiness by having the barbs at different angles. I knew where and how the tubes were going to attach to the res, so I chose a good angle for the tube to come in at, thus getting rid of any flex. Besides, with all the glue I used I can slap the tubes around and not have to worry about any leaking. Funny story though, the day after I finished the res one of my friends told me that you can get containers that have thick plastic on them, which would have made everything 1000 times easier. Also, the good thing about the res is that even if it does leak, the water will be nowhere near any of my components. The top barb would just go down the side of the res and drip onto the carpet, and the bottom barb would drip down to the bottom of my case (both have happened during testing ).

I will deffinitly consider buying a new PSU in a month or so.
