are they still getting trounced by 8800gt sli when AA / AF is turned on or are they doing better now ?

im hoping they are doing better because i want an intel chipset as my next board lol
 
wait for the 4000 series. (im running 3870 crossfire right now, and its quite good. i dont mind if i loose to 8800gt's by 10-20 fps, because i got these super cheap and id much rather have a stable motherboard then 20 more fps)
 
i agree risque. not to mention i'm pushing 17,000 3dmarks with slight overclocks.
 
I remember in the reviews the 3870 crossfire was neck to neck with the 8800 GT SLI since the drivers scaled better. That maybe a different story now though. Anyway like the others have saif wait for the 4000 series. I'm thinking of grabbing a 4670 myself.
 
I would wait for hard's review on it, if they decide to do one (probably will), dont rely on 3d marks for real world performance.

That was Vista. For a long (far too long) Vista and SLI was a horrible combination. the HD3870s in crossfire with vista would frequently beat the crap out of two 8800GTs in SLI. That has since changed.

If the HD3870 could be found for <$150 you'd have a real winner, but at that point ATI is practically losing money per unit just to gain a couple shreds of market share. LGA775 chipsets from Nvidia supporting SLI are starting to show some serious problems. For a long time the average life of an Nforce 6 and 7 series board has been less than a year, which is disgraceful, but now we've got stories of long term HDD curruption on Nvidia chipsets. GG.

That said, the Nvidia chipset problem is offset by the crappyness of ATIs board partners. Rumors were circulating that Nvidia was cutting one of its AIB partners at the same time a couple reports claimed BFG was in financial trouble I was really really hoping the two were linked and BFG would join the ATI camp because at that point the only ATI AIB I'd buy from would be BFG. Alas, this turns out not to be the case. So all we've got for now is visiontek.

this is just my problem, i havent ever had a nvidia mobo that works as well as an intel, and i do need either crossfire or sli so its a decision of performance or stability / longevity...

i think im just gonna get an x48 board and be done with it... i'll grab a couple cheap ati cards for now if i see em and get some of their newer ones when they come out, i dont care if they get beaten by the nvidia cards as long as i can play the games with a smoothe framerate, im not a crysis freak so i dont think i'll have any problems with ati cards lol.
