Hi,

So planning to convert a Dell PowerEdge 1800 server into a workstation running windows XP. No real special plans for the machine, just a bit of a powerful machine to play with when I need something to do.

It has a built in ATI Radeon graphics adapter with just 16mb sdram... I think I saw somewhere that its the same as a Radeon 7000 but not sure.

Anyway, I'm guessing at some point I'll probably add a new video card... but want to try to figure out if I'll be able to make due with the built in adapter for a while. My main goal would be resolution but I can't figure out in advance what the max is I'll be able to get out of the built in Radeon. Anyone know? Will it support any wide screen monitors?

I'm guessing for the most part its junk... but figured I'd at least try to track down the specs first to be sure... and so far I've had no luck searching around.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

well if it were me per say I would pick up a 6200 or maybe even a 6600 (but I like my computers to do anything to some degree) and just stick it in their. I cant help you out with the resolution info though. From the sounds of its age I doubt it would take higher than 1600x1200 but thats just a guess.
