How well does 2005fpw handle interpolation?

Curious about this due to the odd aspect ratio.

Been playing "Silent Hunter III" a lot lately, and the game ONLY supports 1024x768 resolution - no higher options, no lower options.

How is that going to look on a 2005fpw? How well does it handle pixel interpolation?

Also considering a 2001fp instead - is that any better? (Or worse? Seems to be an older LCD panel - 16ms vs 12ms)

2001fp interpolation of SH3 is excellent! It's surprising that it looks so good at a resoultion so far below its native resolution, but believe me you won't be disappointed. There is some blurryness with text on Uboat controls but that's intentional as I've seen screenies from other rigs and it's the same. Have no idea about the 2005fpw.

I hear that there are backlight and screen door effect problems with the 2001. I say get the 2005.

I just got the 2005FPW, and I don't regret it. I ran only 3 games so far on it, Battlefield Vietnam, HL2 and World of Warcraft. They all look fine, only WoW actually supports the wide screen ratio. The pixel interp isn't perfect, but it looks fine to me, BFV and HL2 look just fine playing at the lower res.

Its a damn nice LCD.

FWIW, HL2 actually has a widescreen mode, too - some config file editting needed or something.

The other question, of course, is how well a graphics card pushes 1600x1200 resolution on games that CAN run that high.

Say, IL2: Sturmovik, Lock On, Dangerous Waters, America's Army, etc?

Would a Radeon 9800 Pro be able to hack 1600x1200 with those games and any anti-aliasing?

I'm running my 2005 on a 1.3Ghz computer, and I have to drop the rez on all new games. Looks fine. Not QUITE as good as a CRT, but leaps and bounds beyond any other LCD on the market. Interpolation is quite good.

True, but there is no need for configs. There is a drop down menu under video settings. :)

I played trhough HL2 with widescreen on a regular 21inch CRT just because it looked so much better, one reason I didn't hesitate to get the 2005fpw compared to the 2001fp. And yeah, like someone mentioned, HL2 you don't need to edit the config, there's an option for widescreen resolutions.

Wheres is this option at? My resolution options are all non-widescreen options.

EDIT-- Never mind I figured it out... lol

Check it.

I always prefer to play non-widescreen games matted. The pixels are super sharp and there is no interpolation to worry about.

However if you are one of those people who can't stand "black bars" then this won't be for you.

Well, right now I'm running on a Dell 19" 1905FP (1280x1024), so when playing pretty much any game without that native resolution - games that just support 4:3 aspect ratios - I already have black bars on the top and bottom, since 4:3 scales up to 1280x960, not 1280x1024.

Not to hijack but is it possible to set the resolution in HL2 to 1280X1024, non LCD mode? I tried it last nite on my NEC CRT and it's obviously designed for a native LCD as my ammo counter was chappppppeddd in half and move up around the right middle of the screen.

I am thinking about getting this Monitor but I am concerned that all my games will be stretched. Is there a setting on the card, in games, on the monitor that will allow me to switch to NON-WIDESCREEN mode for some games? TIA!!!

Yes, there is a button on the monitor that allows you to choose to display a lower resolution at it's normal size given your pixels and use letterbox bars on both ends. You can also choose to display 2 windows of a smaller resolution side by side as well.
Love my 2005FPW

What exactly is LCD mode? I'm currently using that mode for my 2005FPW (1280x1024).

I've been playing CS:S at 1280x1024 with that LCD Mode, but I don't have those issues you're having. Weird, maybe a driver issue?

Well, in the resolution choices the choice I see next to 1280X1024 is "1280X1024 (LCD)" which I interpret to mean that the resolution is designed for a native 1280X1024 LCD screen. If you're using it with no problems I guess it works well for the widescreen too. For my new CRT (22" NEC), I get the strange artifacting I mentioned earlier in the thread. When I tried it out on a 2001fp (since returned) I got the same artifacting.

Not that it matters but just for the heck of it I changed HL2 to use my native resolution. I never tried it before because I thought I had no chance of running it smooth.

To my suprise it had very little effect on framerate. The game runs silky smooth at medium setting at 1680x1050. Too bad I played the first hour or so matted. It's great to play this game in its OAR.
