How well do these handle raid?

They should be fine. I believe the "raid specific" drives (timeout fix) is only a WD problem, and thus they're the only ones with a solution.

 
And WD drives DO have a timeout issue. I found that setting my raid controller to poll the smart status of all the drives every minute fixes the issue.
 
ok, so ordered 3 of the drives. Ill order a fourth at some point in the future (P180, can only hold 4 of them in the lower bay).

These will pair fine with the Highpoint 2320 controller, right? Online capacity expansion, can add the fourth later without losing everything, staggered spinup (cant hurt...).

Thats a software controller, correct? Oh well, running an X2, wont hurt me, right?

After the fourth drive, Ill be running 936GB of storage. I even have an extra 120GB I can use for now to hit a TB...I Can even run the raptor off of it and turn off all but one of the controllers on my new A8N-SLI.
 
Correct, it's software. But well-done software raid; it's plenty fast.

This is probably the wrong time to bring this up, but you might want to read this thread. Seagate is very vague about what supports NCQ; they mentioned in their email that the NL35 drives do support TLER, but didn't mention whether or not the 7200.8/9s do. I'll try to get a more specific response out of them regarding that. I wouldn't worry too much; as you can see from the results I'm getting, most everything supports TLER. I've got the 7200.9 marked red only because I haven't heard from Seagate on that specific issue and would rather advise on the safe side.
