I was looking to get a 6x0 series chip. I'd like to be able to get 4 ghz or more out of it on an XP-90/XP-120. Should I spend the extra for something a 650 or do the lower end chips seem to get to 4 ghz fairly easily?

The 6xx series overclock considerably better than their 5xx siblings do, mostly because of the decreased heat dissipation. 4ghz should definitely be attainable with an xp90 or xp120.

Yep, 4ghz on air easy, even stock cooler if you stay at stock vcore. 4.5ghz+ with WCing or other methods.

id be willing to bet it also has alot to do with higher latency cache.

The 500 series doesnt have EIST right, only C1E? I have a 570J ES that clocks itself down to 2800mhz idle and 3800 under load, and my POST screen says 'C1E Enabled in BIOS'...Just trying to figure out what feature is downclocking my chip at idle...

my 3.0 630 chip has been running flawlessy @ 4.1GHz (on air) since day one. ;)

Well, it's kind of weird now, seems like EIST and C1E are the same, except what I found out today is that the 570 stepping E0 are the only ones to support C1E. Though not every version will necessarily incorporate all of the new features as reviewed in THG The E0 Stepping Is Available Now. Sounds like other 5xx don't have support for C1E.

What I've learned is that EIST or C1E runs whether or not you enabled it within windows just as long as you have both features enable within the BIOS. According to Inte's site I have to do this whole process to get EIST enabled: Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology How To Document, but I don't, CPUZ shows the CPU running at 3.3GHZ, it just doesn't show up in the "System Properties" as 3.3GHZ as it should, but when I do the use minimal power, it does show as 3.3GHZ and CPUZ reports it as well.

Everyday I learn something new
:)

Yeah my 570 is an E0 stepping, must have been one of the first ones hence the ES.
