I just bought one for a film class I'm taking and I can't figure out how to open the back of it to put film in it... the little dial to rewind the film fell off and I can hear the screw from it jingling around inside of it now.

Googled . But it sounds like it might be damaged. Try bringing it to a camera shop and see what they say. Either way the bodies are cheap. Another reccomended model with a better LED viewfinder display is the Minolta X-370. They are inexpensive and easy to operate, too.

it's been a loooong time since i've played with on of those, but think there is a button on the bottom of the camera that you have to press before you can open the back

Sorry never followed your link until I posted mine.

Cheers,

to get the back open you need to pull op on the thing that fell off. The knob you use to rewind the film is also what is used to open the back. I have one fo these cameras, and they are great. Fully manual, great inexpencive lense oprions. And it is a very durable camera (if its the right one) There are 2 differant models of the k1000, there is the newer plastic parts one, and the older all metal one. you can tell the differance by Asashi located on the front of the camera. If it sais asashi, then you have the good metal one.
