How to upgrade your computer (MB&CPU) while still using the same HD?

Hello,

I am using WIN2K, and I need to upgrade my computer's Motherboard & CPU, but I have many applications and setting that are loaded in the old computer's HD. I wonder if there is a software that allows this kind of transition. Because, if I just use the same HD on the new computer, it won't boot because of so many new hardware settings.

I tried safe mode, but it still does not work.

I usually just install on top of the existing installation, but there are some tools which can remove all drivers to ensure that there are no conflicts between the new hardware's drivers and residual traces of old drivers.

Just found out a trick here:
DUring the processes below, never reboot when prompted to do so.

1. In the Hardware Management of Control Panel, Uninstall major propriotary drivers for propriotary devices, i.e. USB, Display, Sound & Video and 1394.
2. Then, under Computer, change the ACPI mode to Standard Computer mode by updating the driver and choose manual and select Standard PC.
3. Change the IDE ATA Controller to Standard Dual Channel IDE driver

DUring the above process, never reboot when prompted to do so.

Now, you can unplug this HD and plug it in any other PCs, just boot and reinstall new drivers.
