Is there a setting that stops the lcd/video card from stretching a lower res. to fit an lcd? I have a samsung 172T 1280x1024 and have tried setting the res. to 1280x768 to get an idea of widescreen gaming. However, the res. always gets stretched to fit the whole screen, making everything look thin and stretched vertically. I set the resolution manually with PStrip, but can't find a setting to stop the stretching. BTW, I'm using a Leadtek 6800NU. Any help would be appreciated!

You should be able to set the way your monitor scales resolutions in the Nvidia properties. There are four options in the tab "flat panel management" (or similar, at work atm, can't check). One of these should be "retain resolution", while the others are "let the monitor do the scaling", "let the graphic card do the scaling" etc.

Hope this helps.

I'm currently using the Omega drivers based on the 61.77 Forceware. Does that make any difference, as opposed to the normal forceware drivers?

Why such old drivers? Omega drivers don't really improve much these days that I've noticed. Why not get the official 71.89's from nvidias site? But yes, drivers like omega, or nvidia beta drivers often cut out certain features for the sake of raw performance. The 71.89's add a lot of features for LCD displays.

Also I think these aspect ratio options in the nvidia drivers only apply if you are using the DVI connection to your LCD. And I happen to be running 61.77 also, and they do have the option to choose monitor scaling if you are using DVI.

It's located in nivida display properties > flat panel display. You want the 'fixed aspect ratio scaling' option.

Great, tks for the info guys. I'll have to check it out. For some reason, I just couldn't find any pertinent settings in the properties  . At work right now, but I'll check as soon as I get home.

Check in the monitor's menus too. On the Dell 2001fp, in the Image Settings menu, there's a "Scaling" option that controls how it deals with a non-native resolution.

I just installed the 71.89s and I now have the stretching options! Everything works perfectly. When playing HL2, I now have the option to set my lcd as 4:3 or 16x9-10. Tks for the help guys!
