how to record tv?

would like to know what and how to record tv shows please thanks what do i need and is any of it free such as software and how much hdd space would i need ?

you gonna need a converter to convert the signal from analog to digital there's no way around it but they aren't that expensive less than $22.00 bucks (Sabrent USB 2.0 Video/Audio RCA Capture DVD Maker) online at walmart.

or you gonna need a tv capture card such as the ceton card that uses a cable card from your cable company to record all the cable channels even the encrypted ones and you will also need a lot of hard drive space as hd shows take up to 8gb per hour and you can use windows media center for all the recording .
