I subscribe to Sirius...

With that service I can listen to streams over the 'net. How to record / what software needed to do this ?

this is strictly for my own purpose...

Download a free application called Windows Media Encoder (just Google for it). Load it and start your stream using Real Player or whatever player you use. Launch Windows Media Encoder and select "Capture Audio or Video" and go from there.

I use this program to capture audio to load onto my Pocket Pc for trips and whatnot. Great little app. It can also be used to stream audio from your computer to another computer or device (in my case my Pocket Pc over wifi) but that's a different kettle of fish.

Thanks from me, too. I've been wondering about the same question but never had time to ask.

Glad I could help. Like I said, this app is great with a pocket pc and a storage card. You just capture the audio from Real Player or Windows media, sync your desktop and pocket pc and transfer the show over to the ppc's storage card (or main memory if you have enough) and listen to it whenever you want (on a trip or any time you have to wait). I use it most for capturing talk radio I can stream on the web.

My favourite thing to do with it though is stream live from my desktop to my pocket pc over wifi out on the back porch. You just broadast with your PC using Windows Media Encoder and tune into your PC's url with pocket media player and listen to whatever your favourite talk show is. I haven't tried it with music yet though.

you could also use the streamripper plugin for winamp to record winamp streams. It automatically separates the songs into specific mp3
