How to read CPU Speed?

Hi,

I was trying to overclock an Athlon x2 4200+ @ 2,2GHz to 2,4 maybe 2,6GHz and came up with this..

The motherboard BIOS now reads 2,4GHz, but CPUz, when in full load, it shows 2,6GHz. How's this possible? Also, multiplier in BIOS is set to 10x, but shows 11x in CPUz

I've tried Everest with no luck also...

In CPU properties, MotherBoard tab, reads 5000+ @ 2,6GHz
In CPU properties, Overclock tab, read both an 5000+ and 4200+
In Multi CPU read 2,4GHz each core..


I don't get it... By the fan noise, I'd say it's @ 2,4GHz, but performance wise it feels more like 2,6GHz!

BTW, Windows reads stock clock 2,2GHz..


Is there an expert here who can explain this to me please? Isn't there a more accurate way of reading these values?
 
1. ignore windows..
2. what is the FSB and multiplier in your bios?
3. do you have cool n' quiet enabled or disabled?
 
you could try disabling cool 'n quiet and see if the cpu-z number changes.. but if the bios is saying its at 2.4ghz then id have to go with what the bios is saying unless the bios is not accepting the multiplier change even though its saying it is..

have you checked with other stuff like coretemp or speedfan? both of those will show the cpu speed as well just to double check if cpu-z reading it wrong or if the bios is just not giving the correct information?
