How to read core speed?

Hi guys, after overclocking my 2500k to 4.6ghz, I noticed that cpu-z is displaying the speedstep core speed instead of the maximum core speed.

I'm wondering how you guys are able to check what your core speed is without loading something that requires heavy operation. Is there a way for cpu-z to display the maximum core speed, or do I need another app for it?
 
Most core speed readers only read real-time processor speed. Just load up some heavy operation like P95 or LinX for ~1 minute, it's not going to hurt your processor, and you should be doing that for hours on end to test for stability anyways.
 
Take a look at CPUID's TMonitor program - pretty neat little app that shows you the turbo speed on the fly. Also, unless you are stressing the CPU, you won't see maximum clocks all the time with the power saving features enabled.
