how to overclock core 2 duo

would like to go from 2.13ghz to 2.33 or 2.66 but without using any aftermarket cooler.
 
Thats a small bump in speed. I have a 1.86ghz Core 2 Duo that I OC'd to 2.9xGhz on a stock cooler. Give it a try with your stock cooler and check your temps while running Prime95. A good free app to check your temps is hwmonitor.
 
1.Get into the BIOS,find the FSB Frequency line.
2.Set FSB Freq from 266 to 300MHz.
3.????
4.Profit.

There is practically no chance of damaging your computer if you keep everything at the stock voltages and monitor your temps.

You have to check in your BIOS. Ideally you should have an aftermarket cooler, but it really depends on the temps you are getting under load.
 
From 1.86 to 2.33 is just a small bump,no need to worry about.

I got my E2160 from 1.8 to 2.9 with the stock heatsink,no problem at all.

This is a very easy cpu to overclock and it doesnt need a voltage increase. I actually DECREASED the voltage on mine and it runs like a champ at 3031mhz. It totally stable at 3400mhz but it gets a bit warm.
I also have a Freezer 7 pro heatsink fan.

First you need to download coretemp so you can monitor your cpu temps while attempting your overclocks. Idle temps arent that important, its your max load temps that are important. Idealy you dont want to go above 60c, or much above that.

You want to go into your bios and disable C.I.A.2.

You want to disable EIST.

Then you simply want to raise your fsb (cpu frequency) from 266 to say 333 to start.

You need to adjust your system memory multiplier (SPD) to a ratio that doesnt run your memory frequency over 800 (you have ddr2 800). I run mine at 866 but I have good ram that can handle it. Take it off "Auto" and set it to 2.00, this will run your ram at 667mhz. (cpu frequency 333 x 2 = 667)

Save your setting and reboot. If it boots up fine go into your bios and make sure it stayed at 333 (2.33ghz), if the overclock failed it will go back to 266 (1.86ghz).

Then download prime95 and run the default test (this runs both your cpu cores at 100% load). Keep coretemp open while your doing this so you can see the temps climb. If your going over 60c, stop the test, if it stays under 60c after 10minutes your good to go. Make sure when your done to stop the test.

Let us know how it goes and your load temps and we can bump it up from there.

2. Set PCI Express (PCIe) frequency @100Mhz (‘Auto’ for DS3/DS4/DQ6)
3. Set PCI frequency @33Mhz
4. Disable Hyperpath 3 (for P5W DH only)
5. Disable any ‘spread spectrum’
6. Disable Q-Fan (for ASUS only)
7. Disable ‘Limit CPUID Max to 3’
8. Disable any overvoltage protection
9. Disable ‘C1E’
10. Disable ‘EIST’
11. Disable Virtualization Technology (Though you might need for VMWARE)
12. Disable No-Execute Memory Protect
13. Disable any other thing you don’t use
14. Do not enable any speed enhancements you see

went into BIOS there is no FSB frequency line.......motherboard is MSI p6ngm2
 
you need to spend a good several hours reading about overclocking before you start thinking about hitting the DEL key at power on.
