Anyone else have a Chaintech VNF3-250 I need help overclocking this motherboard, (damn this motherboard DFI lanpartys are so much easier to overclock) what are the ideal bios settings for the vnf3-250 and a A64 2800+ with 1 gig of low latency RAM?
First, see how high your setup can go with a 1:1 ratio. You can do this by simply increasing the CPU Overclock option to anything above 200MHz. Increase by increments of 5 or 10, then try to boot into Windows. If you get into Windows, load up your games or run 3DMark to see if anything crashes. If not, continue to increase the FSB until you run into instabilities.
If you hit a high enough FSB that you're happy with, you can stop there. However, running at a 1:1 frequency is typically hard to maintain; my system can only go up to 240MHz (1.60v) until I have to up the voltage to 1.7 or 1.75v. From here, you can drop the ratio to 5:6, you can do this by decreasing the Max Memory clock to 166 then continue to raise the FSB again, etc.
Once you've hit a decent FSB, lower your RAM timings by one step at a time until your computer refuses to POST or you've got Windows instability. With my setup, it will not post at anything lower than 2.5-3-3-5.
