how to make wireless adhoc connection

i am tryting to update my wii to fw v4 . but i have no dsl phone line . but all i have is a acer aspire one laptop with three gps internet via usb and wireless .

i connect to three gps intenret then i select share it . and make my wireless as an adhoc connection with security disabled for ease as its temporarily so i can update my wii . my laptop then sees the wireless adhoc as an access point when i scan for APs . my wii sees it but it never connects to it and keeps saying to check ssid,. etc .

do i have to connect the laptop to the virtual AP in my wlan manager in xp pro sp 2 still ?
 
problem is wii sees it but wont conect to it , is it because i need to connect my laptop the the virtual ap also ? this then essentuallys make that bridge , or i read in wiki i need to make some sort of bridging ?

i have tried it with 2 laptops
acer aspire one
and one with a pcmcia netgear wg 511t
