Ok, how to get front page pimpage here. I've been wanting to do this for some time, just not sure how.

Take all my boxen per this thread, arrange them so in the dark, all the NIC lights in the rear from an [H]. Basically a glowing [H] of folding power.

For this they must be powered on, and be folding at the time of pic (just has to be this way).

Ideas?

I've get a really tall ladder, so could arrange on the floor and shoot down maybe? However the fronts are kinda round, maybe pop the covers off? Lot of work there.

Built a skelton frame out of wood? Too much effort, I can't cut straight with a table saw either.

Arrange on the shelve some how? I dunno.

I dunno

pitiful. That's like saying "I can't draw a straight line with a ruler". ;)

Maybe some LED fans or something? Put them on the machines that make an [H], and take a pic in the dark.

Add another things to my can't do list. Na, I want these to be real boxen jamming away with out cosmetics. Plus, I don't want to spend anything.

Ummm.... table saws have stoppers/borders on one side, so you can just guide the board along, thus achieving a straight line.

This sounds like an interesting project. Can't wait to see some of that pimpage.

Can you just arrange them on the shelf that they're already on? Take the three that are laying down on the top to form the top part of the [ ]'s, so those are 5 computers tall. Then make an H in the middle that's 3 computers tall.

And so that you don't have to remove a lot of them, you can just cover up the unneeded NIC lights with pieces of cardboard or somthing.

couldn't you just stack them ontop of eachother? sideways or however? If they are vertical pcs just make them horizontal...

How do you do the --- part of the bracket: [

Cardboard cover up, umm me need to play with MS Paint and see if I can do up a plan. It's kinda cheating but that's all good.

<OT>Ahh, ghetto Photoshop</OT>

Take a pic of the rack you have in dim lights (with NIC LEDs visible) so we can try and help.

Fold on people!

Yeah, a pic of your machines would help, that's true. Hrm. I'm thinking you'll most likely find it easiest to put them so that the NICs are pointing up, and shoot down. You can leave some space between the machines to run the cables. (Yikes, that will be a nightmare, trying lay those so they look good!) If they're laying on the floor you can space the machines however you want, so that will be a + 'cause you won't have to mount them on anything to get them arranged correctly. But then again i have absolutely no idea what these things look like, so i could be suggesting something that just wouldn't work. Sounds fun though... keep us posted!

OT edit: Ugh, i need to go to sleep. Don't you hate it when you stay up late and really shouldn't? Work will be fun tomorrow!

-10 step process to the Folding H-
OK so I started working on this a few mins ago and then finished it and was like "Oh cool" but now I think it's kind of obvious but then I thought this:

1. You want to start off with the idea to see if you can leave them on the rack and just go from there.
2. You need better "cable management" then (no biggie right?)
3. Tape off any NIC Lights you don't want to include (Since you probably aren't monitoring them through those lights)
Here's my "Late night can't sleep drawings in paint"
foldingH2.JPG

Basically the bigger one will require 7 rows to look "proper" a poor mans attempt is only 5 rows which you can DO on your current rack.

Here's the layout of what you can do with the 5 row concept:
(Another poor drawing but it gets the point accross)

You might have to slide those top ones around and rotate to get it to look right and move one to the upper right and stand up the two upper right ones. Tape off all the others with electric tape and BAM your done.
4. You lifted one boxen
5. You have your Folding H
6. Didn't spend a dime
7. Didn't have to cut wood (only the "cheese" while doing this)
8. Send to pic to news@hardocp.com
9. Grab beer from fridge
10.Enjoy fruits of Folding Labor while receiving accolades from the folding community and the respect of coutless [H]ard Nerds worldwide.

Wow talk about simple genius... I need a promotion or something.

Madison Avenue Formula

open photo above in photoshop
apply filters & layers till room is semi-lit
add LEDs in a [H]

you have 15 minutes starting......now :p

Without taking them all off the self, this was the best my mind could come up with at 2:30 in the morning. Just take the picture and rotate it, or use a tripod at 90º

This is without the brackes. The brackets would take a little more work. Although, I think it looks very good without the brackets.

The trick to this is take it in the dark, and fiddle around with the exposer setting, trying some time elapsed shots to really pick up the light from the LED's.

I'de love to see how it comes out. Should make for a good "random [H]ard sighting"

My way works, and would be legit. Imagine the smile he'll have every day walking in and seeing the [H] folding away!?

why not just do some [H]ard core wire managment and make the [H] out of those yellow network cables :)

the led fan idea is also a good one

Grimmda- Thanks I'll see what I can do. I've got a few more I can pile in from the other room.

It's burn in folks, cable management=turn lights off.

How about the switches and routers they are connected too? smaller scale I know, but ways more easier to see other than NIC card LEDS.
