ok...I have my wifes POS celeron 366 cranking away and it looks like it is stuck at about 5% on P1406...has a start date of 4-2 and I have a strange feeling it isn't going anywhere....SSSSOOOOOO how do I kill this protein and have the client go get a new one

i think deleting the work folder would do it.

i also believe that it is generally a frowned-upon practice, but if it isn't going... i dunno.

have you tried restarting the client/computer?

A p1406 is a 266 point Gro which should choke that poor Cely.
To kill :( :( :( the best way is to delete the work directory and que.dat, then reconfig and probably ask for WU w/o deadlines, that should give it small Tinkers.
Last year I finally shut down my Cely's @450 because they were choking.

I have to agree with gnewbury, as trying to run any sort of WU with a deadline on that PC is probably a bad idea. Timeless is really the only way to go with equipment of that "vintage" :D

lol...it is being replaced by a Mac mini soon and I will get that folding too!! but yeah...there was finally some movement on this and it looks like the time remaining on this is 1124:29:40 and will be done on 5/30/05  deleting the work folder as we speak BUT since this is also running 98SE I didn't see an option for no deadlines

gigglebyte, if you run the client with the -configonly switch, you will be re-prompted for all the configuration settings. One of the options is to change advanced settings, this is where you will be asked if you would prefer units without deadlines. Hope that clears it up! :D

well I have killed the work folder and started her back up but due to the age of the OS she has to run the 4.0 flavor of F@H and the advanced section does have a check box saying to ignore deadlines localy but even after checking that I still got P1406 back :( once the mac mini comes in this will be getting an OS upgrade to some flavor of linux but until then I have to deal with this crap

Do any of the command-line clients work on that bad boy? Maybe an older command-line folding client would run and you might be able to requeset no deadlines that way. Good luck, and i hope you get that Mini soon!

Better pray it only gets gromacs. The G4s on Tinkers are about as fast as that choking celeron. NO joke.

What kind of machine is that on? My 1.5GHz G4 laptop does a frame every 20 minutes like clockwork.

Thats slow.
My 2.1 Ghz AMD will finish a frame ( p638_L939_K12M_ext, Tinker worth 239 points ) every 5 mins.

Luck......... :D

Save CPU Cycles... Stop Posting!
Your Frames Will Fold Faster.
so what's that say about you? you're wasting cycles to tell others to stop wasting cycles, who will waste cycles to explain why you're doing something wrong... er...

i'm just propogating a cycle here, aren't i? (no pun intended)

except i am now exempt! my machine has stopped folding until tonight, because squid sucks! so i can tell you that you are wrong as much as i want without wasting any cycles! woohoo!

you're wrong x27312 :)p)

Stop making me waste cycles to go to >DC > Refresh > Clicky> Read (load all images and smilies)>clicking reply>loading new page with lots of smilies..... posting... refreshing... GAAAAAAWWWw  :D

well no one is making you reply.

well, except the guy with a gun to your head, but he doesn't count. he never finished kindergarten, so he doesn't know how to.

most likely, you could make up for the cycles lost by raising your fsb by 2. you might even gain something. of course, you lose some time to rebooting the computer, but... that'd get gained back. it's like buying a new car to get better gas mileage. it pays for itself eventually.

MiniMac....one has to wonder just how hot that little box would get folding 24/7 ;)

Four machines here in that Win98SE boat, and all run the F@H4 command line client. No problems noted. :)

Well, none but the "reboot after 45 days 'cause the OS chokes like a rabid dog on it's own slobber", but the power doesn't stay up that long anyway...
