How to keep gadgets from trying to "snap" together in W7?

I can disable "Aero Snap" in Windows 7, but I'm talking about Gadgets. I have two sticky note gadgets, a clock and a system monitor on my 2nd display. I would like to organize them differently, but Windows makes it hard because when I try to put a gadget next to another one, it tries to "snap" it into place. I want to be able to move the gadget a specific amount of pixels, but it's like there's some invisible grid that the gadgets snap to, keeping me from doing so. I've tried right click>view and deselected "arrange icons to grid" just to see if that had anything to do with it, but didn't work.

Any recommendations?

EDIT: I found a temporary fix. By holding shift I can put the gadget wherever I want - but if I log off or restart, the gadgets go back to the "grid" positions they would be in if I hadn't used the shift-click method before.
