Specs: Asus A8N32-SLI Motherboard
Processor: Opteron 165
Stepping: 0543
RAM: Mushkin Redline PC4000 2GB Kit
Video: 7800GT OC
Cooling: Stock

Current settings:
FSB: 275Mhz @ 3-3-2-8 - 2.8v
Core Speed: 2475Mhz
Multiplier: 9x
LDT/FSB: 4X
Voltage: Stock @ 1.35v
FSB:DRAM CPU/14

I know the opterons are capable of 2.7ghz easily im only at 2.4ghz any recommendations on what I should change or adjust?
Side Note: On CPU-Z my memory frequency is showing 176.8Mhz so Im assuming im using a the board automatically set a memory divider in for me. Im normally O/C with a DFI board and new to Asus boards. My question is if the memory frequency is only at 177 and the memory is capable at a standard of 250mhz should i be changing the memory divider to 1:1? how should i have the settings to achieve best oc results?

I think almost 2.5GHz is pretty good for an Opteron 165, especially on stock cooling.

2.7 is quite... optimistic for stock cooling. Get a bigger, badder heatsink or go to water cooling if you want that extra 200MHz.

The best o/c you can get is the one that gives you the most overall mhz on your CPU.

I dont mean to be rude but it sounds like you need to revisit an o/c guide such as the one Eclipse put together here.

some people learn by asking questions over a general review that goes over everything....not saying its a bad guide...its amazing but he mightve read it and misunderstood some parts...give him some slack :)

I understand the fact that an ideal solution would be to run the FSB:RAM at 1:1 however the bios that is included with the A8N32-SLI is in my opinion crap. I prefer the Bios on the Lanparty's alot better.

The options I dont understand on this bios are:

They have 2 options to set CPU FSB and then another for SB to NB...Never used a SB to NB before. And for the ram ratio that would easily be done for me however on this bios it has first:
auto or limit and then it goes from 100mhz to 250mhz in 33mhz ratio increments. Would that mean if I used a higher FSB then 250mhz I am forced to use a ratio? That seems kind of dumb.

I havent built an asus board since the tbird/barton days so I am not real familiar with the bios layouts they use. Silly question, but have you tried reading the manuals explanation of this "sb to nb" setting?

And running a divider on your ram is perfectly fine for your average overclocker, assuming that the ram ends up running close to its rated speed and timings.
